2014 setter

Kali Eaken from KC Power is outstanding and should have many collegiate choices. Left handed, competitive and athletic. Not committed yet!

curious

Haven't really seen too many of the class of 2014 commit to a school anywhere. Are there any that have, setters or others?

Sorry, should have read closer. Know now it's the class of 2013-2014.

what is class of 2013-2014- you mean both classes? Or graduating 2014?

2013 are high school juniors, so there can't be too many even committed at this point, though I'm sure they're getting close.  And have any setters in 2014 verballed yet?

I think a more interesting question is who is the best unsigned setter in 2012- has Erienne Barry signed anywhere yet?

assuming you meant 2014, two of the best i've seen are

Abby Detering(?) - Academy Cleveland
Haley Templeton - A5

both around 6 and taller, left-handed, athletic, and very skilled

Erica Handley, Win-E-Mac (Winger, Macintosh, Erskine) Minnesota. 6-1 and still growing, leftie. Played for the USA HP Continental Team this summer. Nice hands, dumps the ball amazingly- doesn't telegraph it at all. Very skilled. Plays for Northwoods Black Ice JO team. A team of 3= 15 yr olds, 3 =16 yr olds and 1- 17 yr old. Played in the 17's at AAU's in Orlando and her team won the Blue Division. Played in mostly 17-18's in Minnesota club and beat some pretty good 18 yr old teams. She is a solid setter with a very high VB IQ. Mom is her club coach, Lisa Handley.(she played and coached in college). All State as a soph last year.

Justine Wong-Orantes

Justine Wong-Orantes is noteable. She is a 2013 from Los Al, CA. She might actually be commited at this point but as far as I know, she's not.

For the class of 2013, the Virginia Beach area features Amanda Bologna (Kellam High, Coastal Virginia), Paxton Crooks (Kellam High, Beach Elite), Dani Fitts (Princess Anne High, Coastal Virginia), & Gabrielle Pe (Ocean Lakes High, Coastal Virginia - though a tenacious libero too).

Saw a setter in the SCVA JNQ in Anaheim. #24 Setter out of 951 elite My team is from Hawaii so I can appreciate seeing fellow Polynesian athletes in sports besides football lol. She had the BEST HANDS I've ever seen. She's about 5'9" Samoan athlete. I Looked her up and she is not committed...can't believe it!
Don't let her thick build fool you...we are bred like this. This girl can move, block and dump and dig. She changed her shirt in one set and played libero too!

I'll second the vote for Abby Detering.  My daughter also plays at AVC and it's a pleasure to watch Abby play.  She's very talented and great with the younger girls.  Another great AVC setter who also is in the class of 2014 is Kyra Coundourides on the 17s team.

951 Setter

That girl is Raevyn Tuitasi-Aiono.  She is an amazing player and an even sweeter girl.  I had the pleasure of getting to know her a little bit and have watched her play.  Great hands and great heart!!  I wish her the best with her college search.

951 Setter

Thank you for adding  Raevyn Tuitasi-Aiono to this list. A "diamond in the rough".I too only knew her as #24 from 951 but quickly became a huge fan of hers.We were invited to a friendly tournament hosted by 951 Elite a few months back and couldn't believe the hands on this athlete. Doesn't look like your typical volleyball player, but she is all heart on that court. I enjoyed watching her play. I guess you can say don't judge a book by it's cover. Perfect example. Curious to find out where she'll end up.

#7 from AVC

Played a Academy Volleyball Cleveland 17 Open at the NEQ this past weekend. The setter, Kyra, was definitely top notch. Quick, athletic, runs a fast offense and plays great defense. Never could tell what she was going to do with the ball. Also very smart. Has to be a top setter from the class of 2014.

Top 2014 Sophmore Setters

Hunter Thompson 5'10" setter Alliance 16 Mizuno is a solid setter, very tough and has lots of potential to be in a top program somewhere.

Stephanie Aiple
6'1" Setter/RS Austin Juniors 17 Mizuno (playing up an age on 17's).  She is a very smart setter who runs a very quick, well-balanced offense.  Can attack and block.  One of the top recruits in her class.  Watch for her in a top program.

Abby Detering 6'0" talented Setter/RS playing for Academy Volleyball Cleveland.  Good attacker and blocker.  I believe she played on USA A2 team in the past.  Another top recruit in her class.  She can also compete in a top collegiate program.

With all the collegiate setter transfers happening, I hope that all of these top recruits take their time and make the best choice.  Rumor has it that they are because many of these setters mentioned on this board so far could have committed by now.  The offers are out but it is nice to see them waiting a bit.

Good luck to all of them!  Good kids and lots of talent.  Smile

Thanks to A2Best for the 2013 committed setters and their future college. Also, good chart presentation of data. I need to learn how to do that. Are all those setters from 5'11" to 6'2" really as tall as listed?

Will anyone from SoCal comment on how Laguna Beach's Kelsey Humphreys stacks up against the other setters in her 2013 class?

Thanks Cardcounter; I've admired your keen insights on the board over the years. No credit for the chart is due as it's just Excel. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

I can't say I've seen all the listed 2013's, but quite a few of them over the last several years. Pretty much all I've seen at the upper end of the height range seemed pretty legit at posted heights on the court. But height is just one factor, although there would seem to be a trend in that direction at the position.
