With tournaments in D.C., Columbus, Dayton, Birmingham, Chicago, Omaha and Vegas, there is a whole lot of volleyball being played. Fully understanding that its to early to set anything in stone, what are we learning so far this weekend? Who left an impression on you?

KIVA 14 Red is very, very good. Team St. Louis 15 is very, very tall Ron Kordes is very, very good at manipulating the refs

who won the President's Day tournament in all the age groups at Great Lakes. Their website does not have complete results. Does anyone have the info? |

In 15 Open: Lions 15-1s won the 15 open defeating KIVA 15 Red in the finals. (Lions 15-1s also won Central Zones last weekend defeating KIVA 15 Red in the finals). KIVA 15 Red defeated SPVB 15 Elite in the semis by a wide margin and Lions 15-1s defeated Milwaukee Sting 15 Gold in the semis. Team St. Louis had a very tough seed with loses only to Lions 15-1 and KIVA Red but I believe ended up fifth. They were probably the third best team at the tourney. KIVA 14 Red won the silver division and they also had tough seeding with losses only to Team St. Louis and Lions 15-1. They were probably the fourth best team that the tourney. KIVA 15 White finished second in silver. I heard KIVA 17 Red won the 17 Open, but I cannot confirm that. So, not a bad showing by the Loiusville teams. |

Watched 17 Open on Saturday night, and then saw some of the 15's on Sunday.
In 17's KIVA is starting to play really well. McClendon and Hardy on the outside are doing really good stuff, but they are really starting to utilize their middles and right a little more. Much less predictable than in previous years. Illini Elite has got another good team at the 17's level. Very impressed. Wasn't expecting much from them this year after the group that came through that division last year, but they're right there again. In 15's, Lions looks like they're the team to beat. They were beating teams pretty handily along the way as well. They beat up on Fusion and Milwaukee Sting to get to finals. I don't think they dropped a game all weekend until the KIVA match. KIVA beat some good teams handily on the way to the finals. They took care of a good Team St. Louis team in the quarters and beat up on Sports Performance in the semis. I was impressed with the final. Some high-level volleyball for that age. Great points in front of a great crowd. Lions won in three. |

Fusion 15 Black had two loses. Kiva 15 and Lions 15. Thats a tuff play schedule. They beat a very tall St Louie team for 5th......Talk about a tuff
seed.........Lions and Kiva! Lions is a great team and will be tuff to beat. How about that Kiva setter! She is fun to watch..........

We have learned from the President's Day tourney that KIVA 17-1 will be the team to beat this year in JVDA. They are comprised of a hard hitting front line, defenders who get after it and great servers. Thanks Dan and Nick for the awesome coaching job that you do and for preparing these girls for the next level. |
