Well time to start talking competition since all club teams have had tryouts for the 14's age group. Who is the team to beat in the 14's age group?
Kiva and St. Louis CYC Green dominated this age group last year. Which team looks like they will come in and compete with those two powerhouses? Team Momentum
from St. Louis looks good in early practices and from what I hear St. Louis CYC Blue looks to be very strong as well. Kiva won the JVDA championships last
year and St. Louis CYC Green won Nationals in Dallas in the National Div. St. Louis CYC Blue won Nationals in the American Div. Who else is strong coming in to
this season?

Honestly, I think KIVA is in a league of their own. They competed at a JVDA tournament in the 14 open division as 13s last year and finished ahead of teams
that were in the gold bracket of the JVDA 14 Open tournament. KIVA is normally good at younger age groups, but this group has the potentially to be great all
the way through, they have lots of height and unbelievable athletism.
In the Chicagoland area, the tops teams last year as 13s were Lions Jrs and Attack. However, don't rule out sports performance, the player that set their 14 team to a third place finish at the 14 Open JVDA championship is young enough to play a year younger. So, if she opts to play 14s again, I would consider them a force. I also was impressed by Milwaukee Sting. They had some height and this will help them more as they get older. Finally, I have to wonder what Texas Tornados are doing. They had two players on their 14 Open team last year that could play younger - their phenom setter and their unbelievable outside hitter. In fact, the outside hitter can play 13s this year. So, depending on what those players decide, the Tornados could give KIVA a run for their money. That is a match I would love to see. |

I would've given Skyline's 14s a shot but heard they split up.

Well time to start talking competition since all club teams have had tryouts for the 14's age group.Speak for yourself. Our region doesn't allow 14s and under tryouts until this next weekend, and no tryouts for 15s and up until December 1st. |

If it is true about Skyline I am sad since I thought they could have been really strong this year. Does anyone know how TAV out of Dallas will be? Such a
strong program so I wonder if they will be better than last years 13s.
What about the Woodland Stars?? Heard they to had split up. JMHT

For that now 15's age group Tornados got a lot of previous Woodland Stars players which will be a nice addition the the Tornado Club.

Are there any teams that are switching from USAV or JVDA to the oppisite. My team last year played throughout the season in both but ended up going to
Nationals in Dallas. I plan on playing in both during the season this year also and will probably stay going to Nationals USAV. Team Momentum from St. Louis
picked up 1 girl from the CYC National Championship team and a select group of girls from differant #1 teams in the gateway region. Look for them to make an
impact in there region and around the bigger stages also. I think St. Louis CYC is still the team to beat this year and Kiva. CYC added alot of fire power to
an already great team.

Skyline 14s break up? | ||
|
Not sure where that info came from, but i think everyone will be surprised if they underestimate this team this year. They only lost 1 player and gained 4
stronger ones. Not sure if that qualifies as a split up???? I guess the finishes will dictate that this year?

Skyline is a good team. They nearly beat St. Louis CYC last year at Nationals in the first pool of the tournament. They lost the third game 14-16 it was a
great game to be a part of. Team Z was the National champion when this age was 12's but last year they looked like a complete differant team. Same goes for
Munciana Woohoos and Mava. Mava picked it up after the first Central Zonal and became a very good team last year. Milwaukee Sting should be very strong again
this year also.

Did any of you see Encinitas Wave? They were a great team last year. And the Jammers from Hawaii always finish high at USAV Nationals. CYC apparently won 2
matches last year at Nationals in the third game by only 2 points each. They won the National Championship but were "inches" away form being taken
out twice. Looks to me like the division is wide open. Invasion could even make a run.

Thoughts for txvbbg's question:
TAV 13s had excellent hitting and good size last year as seen at Lone Star NQ in Houston, so the TAV 14s this year should be good. Last year they didn't try out for TCS, which would have been good for them and the TCS. The Skyline 14s for this year have been great the last two years as 12s and 13s. As long as they have their core, especially their setter (great at game skill and strategy), they will reign in Texas with Austin Jrs 14s until proven otherwise. In Houston, the two best teams in this age-group of kids has been the Tx Tornados and Willowbrook (12s-2006, 13s-2007). Both of them have had a core group of kids that play well together. SW Jrs 13s also played well together last year with good retention of players, and I expect them to improve again this year. Can't comment on South Shore 14s as they still cant get around to posting their roster. Last year they only could find 8 players for their top 13s team, and I know three of their best of those have left to other clubs (AVA, AVA, TRV). TRV 14 Elite this year has great potential and is working hard, so we can wait and look forward to seeing the results on the court (personal bias). I can say that the average front-row height on TRV14E will be the tallest in Houston 14s by a great margin, and all positions appear to be strong. |

Based upon seeing them at tournaments, I think the following teams outside Texas were very good last year and should be even better this year just looking at
my impressions of various aspects of play. (Not meant to exclude anyone, just highlight a few from tourneys we attended.)
OVA 13s from Orlando were very good with good size so they will be good at 14s this year. Front Range 13s from Colorado played well together and should be strong. Their main weakness (opinion) was extreme overuse of their primary hitter. KC Extreme 13s looked like a good group of kids that were very competitive, so I look forward to seeing them develop this year as 14s. |

Southern Cal 14's | ||
|
The Southern California teams will again be strong. Sunshine added size and strength, Encinitas added a strong player from OVA and San Gabriel will also be
very good. Do not know about Mizuno LB, but they are always a force. Last year all four teams (13's) finished very strong in the SCVA 14's (Gold).
Encinitas finished 2nd behind eventual JO Gold Medalist Mizuno Long Beach. It's a shame the So Cal teams will not play KIVA and the other JVDA teams.

OVA has a very strong team in this age group, placing 3rd at USAV Nationals last year. Sportzmark is right, this is a pretty tight group as shown last year during USAV play. However, VBFan13 is on the mark, KIVA is simply in a league of their own in this age group. I watched them play several matches at AAU Nationals last year and I have never seen a more dominating team. They were a joy to watch. |

KC Extreme lost their 2 best players. 1 to Invasion 14's and 1 to Invasion 15's.

I coached that team last year and they have that killer instinct. I now have to coach against them and they have added a couple players to make them even better. |

I wasn't implying that CYC was lucky, only that the division is wide open.

...were talking 13-year old players here that will now move to 14s? Way too many variables in these younger groups as they have miles to go before fully
developing their skills and brains for the game...and the "wild-card" of growth spurts. Pretty sure that is one of the key factors in PREP not
covering, ranking, or predicting age groups before 15Us.
My advice would be to just let them play, develop, have fun rather than shine the limelight on them at this very early age. Would hate to see a FACEBOOK war break out that the "PREP message board has our 14s Team being better than yours". And for those diehard parents that live and die with threads of this type on the younger ages, know that after 30-years in the sport I've seen many "can't miss" 12 though 14s flame out later in the sport with some of that being attributable to the pressure put on these youngsters by means such as this thread. |

For the love of volleyball!! I wasn't aware volleyball (as we know it) was around 30 years ago, let alone "means such as this thread" that
endangers the very children and sport we are so entralled by.
I guess we have been told to bide our time and listen to the same old/same old about the same old age group(s) for at least another year. We are just too "green" to know any better. |
