A year after it's deployment, AES continues to struggle in providing updated information to the volleyball community. As evidenced by their performance at Lone Star this weekend, delays in getting results posted can be anywhere from one to five hours on completed matches. Even during updates, AES must down their entire system providing those trying to access information a blank screen with some default like "please check back our system is updating". If you want real time results call someone at the tournament and ask them if they won. There's a delay in Sign up to Play too. Its all dependant on manual input. Whatever you said before about the referees putting in the scores is wrong. They bring the scoresheets up and someone has to put them into the system. I'm sure if they're being put in and you try to access that score it says "please check back." Either way, there is no other sport that does anything close to either one of these systems. Be happy to get what you get. Clubs use these systems for Sign-up to the event, and for scheduling. They don't buy it so people like you can hit refresh every 10 minutes on their computer to see the latest score. In my opinion, Event Management doesn't include you, me, or anyone else who didn't pay for the software.

There are glitches to be sure in AES' system, but I know this: 1. It is MUCH better than a year ago; 2. The people who run it are committed to improving its performance every time out. 3. They are doing more and more events, meaning more chances for you to see online how teams are doing rather than wait for a text or phone call from a loved one.

There was a bank of computers near the tournament desk where we, the officials, put in the scores after each match and before we got our next assignment as stated. 2. 10-minutes? Try as much as five hour delays between getting information updated. If it is indeed may for scheduling, it gets an "F" because you can't tell who's playing where due to the delays. Forget the parents and fans, in it's most basic function, scheduling, it does not work. 3. We do pay for the software, courts, balls, officials, it's called Tournament Entry Fees...It's broke, fix it! Again, it's been over a year to get the code right and the software correct. *"...It may not be totally accurate. AES is for sign-up and for scheduling. Definition of scheduling is setting up the initial pools and tournament brackets, not for reporting quick results. From what I can tell at the tournaments, if scores aren't put into the system, they can't update. Maybe the tournament needs more people to input the scores. Also, entry fees are to play in the tournament. Having the ability to see results online is a bonus.

Scheduling is for sign-up (OK); initial pools (OK); and brackets (OK)....but it has to SCHEDULE teams during the tournament! What court do they play on, who do they play, what time do they play...that's the definition of SCHEDULING. If the darn system can't handle it, pass out paper sheets with bracket information. 2. Whatever the reason, it the responsibility rests with AES whether it's people, code, software, quality control, making sure the results are in the system...AES ain't getting it done. 3. Entry fees pay for all aspects of the tournament including the infrastructure. Having the results online or stuck on a wall in paper is not a BONUS, it's a necessity for coaches, recuriters, players, and yes the fans. Choose either paper or online but get it accurate and timely.

The "infrastructure" is in place before the tournament starts. Teams know where they finish in their pools and subsequently, where they play next. Now you're asking for paper results? You spent the whole weekend complaining about how you deserve to know the results of matches within seconds of finish. Now, you want it on paper on a bulletin board? How does that resolve your problem? I'm sure its not perfect, but unless you want to develop another software yourself, then either deal w/ it or get over it. Next you'll be "requiring" every large event to have live video for you to watch. As long as the tournament itself is running smoothly, I'm guessing internet results aren't a high priority.

I have also entered scores as an official and seen the SUTP software work. My guess is that the tournament staff person entering the scores got backed up, or had other duties at the end of the tournament and forgot, or did not know how to post the final results from AES. Entering results in AES takes about 30 seconds. Multiple that 30 seconds times the number of courts being used at the same time and you get the delay for entering that time slot's matches (not to mention the 3 game matches still being played). It would be better if AES could eliminate that "refresh" notice and just make viewing the results a little more seamless. Last Edited By: VB ALL 1 04/14/08 2:04 AM. Edited 2 times.

As an aofficial this weekend at the LSC, I am glad I was not required to have to worry about entering scores. I think the officials have enough to do between matches without having to worry about getting to a computer and entering scores - like verifying the scoresheet, getting the coin toss done and warm-ups started for the next match within about 2-3 minutes of the previous match ending, monitoring/timing warm-ups, instructing the incoming scorekeeping/referee teams, getting some water to drink, going to the facilities....not to mention that probably not all of the officials might be that proficient in using the software to enter scores in the first place...I would think it would be better for tournament staff to be entering that information. I am not sure when there were problems getting information online at home, but I was monitoring some teams that had players my daughter used to play with all three days and I never had any issue accessing the system/results at the computers at Reliant Center. Fun? You mean Volleyball is supposed to be fun??

Let's see, its not a resource or entry issue as the desk had to go to paper instead of the AES. Tournament officals ready to input, can't use the system, lets get out paper and pencils to finish the tournament. Correct? We all believers now that it's not entering the information that's the problem? Again, tournament resources had to dump the AES and go back to paper to complete the tournament. I was wondering why the results from the KC Tournament just stopped after a certain date that weekend. So the theories that entry and the overwhelming task of keeping up is inaccurate...it's the freakin AES software and code! And a software program does not need to be developed....it's already available and exceptional by the primary AES competitor. Please don't tell me that AES is going to do Nationals this year.
