Already see they have listed 42 bids and 12 at large for 64....math may be a problem for them

42 + 12 + 10 = | ||

64....
10 bids thru league competition formats. Don't know if I like the proposal, but the math is sound. Now, your reading comprehension... |

Missed the historical strength automatic portion not the list of "power leagues" although to give bids out to areas that are volleyball rich and then
have a "zonal qualifer in area gives certain parts of the country two chances versus others who only get one...so my mistake on the automatic list of 10.
However when do teams get to compete against other teams for all over the country...only at nationals? Vegas or Omaha...which means that if you want to compete against teams and travel as a team then you must wait and play until June? Since you are not allowed to leave your geographic area for zonal qualifers this is telling directors how they must run their club....wrong way to do it it my opinion because the JDVA tells them they cant leave their area?? Too funny that clubs whining about the higher cost of chasing a bid want to control the way a club operates by not letting them do things they have a right to do if they so choose. Because the only way it seems that you can play teams from other than your regional area is in June or at Vegas or Omaha whcih are on same weekend and vegas only takes 17/18's. If you add in other national tourneys to give teams some options then it is the same thing as the regular qualifer process now, except no bids awarded at all.

Sounds to me on the surface to be made for the "haves" to have more and those that don't currently "have" to have a snowball's
chance in .... of breaking in after two or three years...
Fun? You mean Volleyball is supposed to be fun??

The haves are being short changed. They are limited to how many teams they can qualify. The have nots get freebies.

There were various Out of Town teams at both the NEQ and BSQ. How much actual difference is it for the JVDA to recognize the strengths and weakness of various Regions upfront instead of the current method of Out of Town teams flying in to crowd out the locals for USAV bids? |

Seems reasonable | ||

I think this sounds good. I don't think this would prohibit a team from attending another tournament (Las Vegas, Omaha, etc.) What is not to like? Texas
might need/deserve another bid. Also, you might need to figure out what do about southern Indiana. Indianopolis is a ways away from the current Power League.
But I think this is pretty close.but I think this is pretty close.
So, seriously, who hates this and why? It seems like a good structure. |

Major Issue still exists

Copied Quote: (If 12's, 13's and even 18's were moved to an earlier date this would
allow for a development of a special event designed and tailored to their needs. This would also allow for expansion of the intermediate age divisions at the
JOVC. )

I do, and why? You only get to play teams in your geographic area for the most part...here in Texas that would be accomplished by the Tour and even now many of the top North Texas teams have left the tour. What incentive do you have to find any potential tourney nationally besides Omaha and Vegas that wouldnt conflict with many power leagues, tours etc. It gives a major advantage to the Bigger clubs in large geographic areas that have power leagues and gives no opportunity for smaller clubs to compete in club level tourneys across the nation. This is not good for those who cannot compete in OPEN and club can only qualify at regional tournies so no reason for 95% of the actual clubs to bother playing and testing the waters once in a while outside the area at something like a qualifer. I guess they stay with rinky dink one day tournies against below average competition as the only teams in our POWER LEAGUE in Texas so to speak are the Top 18 or 24 who qualify less than 3 weeks into the actual season and are shut out for the rest. Take away qualifers and you will find it very hard to find quality competition later in the season if you cant leave your area. And who gives any entity the right to dictate where and when you want to play, regardless of the expense. The JDVA among other reasons was created to try and minimize costs by clubs who could NOT police themselves at the expense of chasing the almighty OPEN Bid. Do I feel that change is necessary, absolutely, but to tell club where and when they can participate is not the answer. The answer is simply add more bids available at OPEN and Club level per qualifer and add more qualifers in areas that allow minimal travel or at least less expensive travel. This stops the chase for many teams or makes it less expensive and then maybe they can police themselves in the process. Increase the number of OPEN bids at qualifers or add more qualifers but dont take away an option for a club to decide where and when to play. Club level definately needs to address the lack of bids at a qualifer but honestly that can be addressed by simply taking an amount at each qualifier and then giving all other bids to regions, eliminate national and american divisions prior to nationals and allow the first day of play at JO's to determine National and American Divisions. To illustrate the OPEN division proposal in Texas zonal region created by the JDVA and using the 17's division as an example. Using the system developed... Austin Jrs and Texas Tornados would get bids on Tour results, The next 5 were AVA, Dallas Jrs, Extec, Alamo and Willowbrook but does not include pernially powers TAV, Skyline, Amarillo, OPP, Premier, Victory etc that did not play Tour so only 7 of those teams are in of all of them and I know I am missing some more. And if you dont play a national schedule since you have to stay within zone and POWER Leagues how do at larges get selected? Based upon what criteria? How do you seed the tourney at nationals if they havent played head to head or have common opponents? Because common opponents would be less likely in this system. I guess strength of region, which once again goes to the have and against the have nots. How are girls recruited? Coaches are expected go to all the power leagues over 3 months and nationals and regional championships that are on same days?? What do teams who fail to qualify for power league do if they are not on their A game at beginning of league to even get in to the league? I know many teams that are just forming or had lots of turnover and not a cohesive unit when Tour qualifer was starting and thus were not ready, didnt play, had a bad match and were left out of the dust, seeding issues, etc that can now beat some teams on that level but only get the rare chance to play them? Do those kids have other opportunities to be seen? Where??? |

National representation
|
In many ways the JVDA proposal is a step towards the NCAA solution for national representation. Conference winners get an automatic bid to the dance. Could
every PAC-10 team beat the winner of the Southland Conference? Absolutely. But the NCAA recognizes the benefits of national representation.
Could the top 15 teams in the Texas zone beat the top team from the Pacific Northwest Zone. Maybe. But the sport is better off with national representation. IMO |
