Registered Member Posts: 21 (03/11/08 9:39 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Opinions, recommendations....for a high school soph (to be junior in the fall) interested in playing in college...Better to attend the summer camp of a college of interest, potentially play on a USAV youth team at the HP Championships, or attend a USAV youth dev camp?

It worked out well for her and helped her make a decision when it came time to choose. It also helped that coach determine if she was the right fit for his program. In my daughter's case, she was able to participate in the USA volleyball program too as the camp she attended did not conflict with the USA Volleyball dates. But, she would have attended the college camp over the USA Volleyball if they had conflicted. Use this summer to attend the camps of the universities your daughter is interested in. It will really help when it comes time for her to make decisions. She can always do the USA Volleyball the following summer!

If your region has an HP program that goes and plays at the HP Championships, and your region has a good HP program, I would say do that. If you can do a college camp AND one of the above, even better. If either of the above is not an option, then just do the college camp. However, you need to understand that the national team programs are not about instruction, like a college camp might be. The national team programs are about putting together the best players possible and then playing - you need to hit the ground running. The development camps will have more instruction involved.

Over the past two summers, my dd has played on an HP select team at the HP Championships and attended a USAV Dev1 select camp. She enjoyed both, and really got alot out of the camp. She would like to participate in either (of the above) again this year. It just so happens that two of the college camps that she is most interested in are in mid and late July. So we are trying to decide whether or not she should even attend a USAV HP tryout....kind of a mute point if she cannot particiapte. I would also like her to have maybe a couple of weeks off in between the end of club season and the college camps...just to let her body rest!
