I have just been given the go ahead to purchase a video camera and a stat tracking program from the school booster club......Any suggestions....I would most
like only have about 1K to spend on everything.
I'm not all that familiar with video cameras..I would really like something that I am able to download the content to my laptop,but like I said...I have no
idea pricing for something like that...

I have been using a Sony Hard drive camcorder for the past year and I am very impressed. Great part about this type of camera is NO tape or DVDs and a very
long battery life. I am not using high definition but the wide screen format and the clarity is amazing. The files can be copied directly from the hard drive
of the camcorder to a computer hard drive. The software is really easy and burning DVDs is a breeze. Check out

I think you would be able to find them cheaper somewhere else that the sony store though. Good Luck! We found that the hard drive route is great for High School when you only have one game to tape. However, if you are going to use it for club or even high
school quads, you will want to make sure that the hard drive can hold 3+ hours of filming - the ones we looked at could not hold that much.
I would definitely drop Torami an email if he doesn't respond to this thread. He is very knowledgeable about both stat programs and the video side of things. Best of luck. |

The recording media is a matter or personal preference: some like the in camera media approach (HD or Flash) while others like tape. But the single best
investment you can make for shooting volleyball is a wide angle adapter, so get a camera that will accept a screw on adapter. That will enable you to get all
of your side of the action no matter where you have to set up.
As far as the stat program goes, I tried a couple and settled on "Volleyball Ace". It runs on a palm pilot (or smartphone) for acquisition, then sync's with your PC. Once you are used to it, you can take the stats from the video with it running at 1.5-2x normal speed, which is a big time saver, or you can take the stats real time during the match. http://www.ace4vb.com/ |

Are you looking for a stat program that will link to the video?
Options such as Data Volley or Gamebreaker are pretty expensive - outside of your budget. Data volley is coming out with a more basic version of their program that will be $500 to $750. |

It's called Data Video Essentials. It allows you to track kills by player by rotation and look at video broken down in combinations of those three
criteria. It also allows you to export video (montages) of those breakdowns for your players to watch.
