Patriot League...hello, anybody out there?

My daughter is going to Lehigh this fall, so I need to be brought up to speed on the Patriot League. Before everyone starts "busting my chops", I am aware that they didn't fare to well in years past.

I just would like some input from others who have knowledge of the Patriot League and what are the predictions for the 2008 season.

As for Lehigh, from what I have seen and heard about the 2008 recruits and with the fact that the Coaching staff has a year of experience under their belt, I think may surprise many people this fall!

No offense, but your chops will be busted for making this statement should there be no improvements.

Predictions:
American will win it all again.
Colgate was a nice surprise last year and appears to have only lost one starter (3 seniors, but only one with significant playing time and stats). They should continue to do well, and finish maybe 2nd or 3rd. It will depend on how well Army performs too...Army and Colgate will finish 2nd or 3rd in either order. Er...I should say its American, Army and Colgate are definitely 3 of the 4 participants in the PL tournament.

For the rest of the Patriot League, its really a toss-up and will depend on the recruits they get. Bucknell, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Lehigh and Navy will be playing for the final and fourth spot in the PL tournament.

Thanks for setting me straight X! Hey, I'll settle for fourth this year!

I don't need to know where or when, but did you Coach in this league? The reason I ask is that my Daughter and I watched several Leagues over the years and thought the level of play was one of the best we seen. You agree?

While I would say that American, Army, and Colgate is most likely to round out the top 3, this is the PL and whackier things have happened. Like last year, I did not expect Colgate to come in 2nd after finishing 5th or 6th the previous year. But they did and it was nice to see them regain some dominance after a long drought. In fact the last time they made it to the tourney was during Dorinda's, who is also a great coach, days that Colgate. So its possible for Lehigh to do better than 4th with the right players and coaching staff.

Regarding the best level of play, I'd say the PL has been one of the most balanced conferences over the years, with the exception of American. I mean there were teams that gave American a run for their money (like Army, Colgate, Bucknell, and Lehigh) unfortunately this did not happen all at once and American was able to pull themselves together for the PL tourney. But usually you will see most of the remaining schools fight it out for the final 3 spots. I think last year was the first time (at least in awhile) where 3 schools (American, Army, Colgate) dominated the league.

I'm also losing touch with what's happening in the PL...old coaches moving on, not knowing the new ones. Always hope some newblood would chime in and start talking about the PL, and some do, but rarely would a PL thread remain active. Que sera sera!

Good luck to your daughter at Lehigh. I'm sure she'll love climbing the hill after practice!
