Recruiting at college camps |

What kind of contact is allowed per NCAA DI at a college camp for an incoming junior?

Only that of an instructor/coach as it pertains to the camp, but it's a great way to get to know each other. If the player is interested in the school that is giving the camp and the coach/school that is giving the camp is interested in the player, well, this is how offers are formed or not. Good Luck! |

so.... if it is a school you are interested in and the coaches have watched you play before, will they talk to you about playing for them or is it just
strictly "camp" talk?

This is the way I understand it - For a discussion to take place you will need to arrange an unofficial visit to the school in question through your club coach
or HS coach, there you can discuss what ever you like - or your child can call and talk to the coach if you catch them in. They can not call back until after
Sept 1 of the junior year - I believe the coaches can call once a week after that date. I'm not sure if you can arrange an unofficial visit while at the
camp. The coach will tell you yes or they can't talk to you about it you if you ask

...for the NCAA's Guide for the College Bound Student Athlete. Every parent should read and be an informed source for their player going through the
recruitment.
http://www.ncaa.org/library/general/cbsa/2007-08/2007-08_cbsa.pdf In the pamphlet will be academic requirements, recruitment defintions and recruitment timelines and restrictions by high school year including the coach not being able to call until July 1 after a players junior high school season. As far as recruitment during camps, my guess would be that a player is on their campus and alhtough the recruiter cannot purchase a players meal, camp fee, or give a gift (T-shirt) they can use the time to talk to prospective players about the school, volleyball program, where that player might fit in and attempt to determine a level of interest as long as they remain on campus. |

Once you step foot on campus you,the player and the coaches can talk about anything under the sun. They can not pay for anything since this is an
"unoffical" visit. After we attended their camp, we were offered a scholarship by the head coach. If the coach feels that its a good fit (daughter
was able to play with existng team and incoming recruits) they might present an offer on the spot. Find out at the camp if the team will be there along with
incoming recruits. This way the recruit can see the team, get a feel of how they play, and if its at the level that your daughter wants to be at.

Rule 13.12.1.3 states that recruiting can not take place during the time period of the camp. We all know that the camp can be used by each party to familiarize
themselves with each other, but it it would be illegal to talk specifics and to actively recruit that player- including offers- during the camp.
It is, however, legal for recruitment to take place before or after the camp. So if a PSA wishes to stay after the camp is finished for an unofficial visit, they may do so. Offers can also be given at this time- like as can happen on any unofficial (or official, for that matter) visit. If your daughter was "recruited" during camp, it was done illegally. Now, these are DI rules. I'm unsure as to how DII would treat camps. |
