the overwhelming question in my mind with all these tryouts is this. why do players leave one club and go to another? and why do clubs "recruit" players to come "over" and play for them? is it because the players couldnt make it at that club? is it because the clubs can not or do not know how to build and train volleyball athletes? to me, a club advertises they sent X number of teams to Nationals. well excuse me but, so what!!! big deal!!! did they actually train all those kids and teach them to be that good or did they just happen to recruit them all and offer them "top" spots on teams? have any or how many of those kids have spent more than a year or two at most with that clubs program?
obviously the answers to those questions can on the surface be simplistic in nature, but my mental wanderings continue to ask are we actually better for it? is the quality of volleyball in the LS region, in which i happily reside, better for all this swapping around?
Texas just got through sending 8 teams to 16 Open (which in itself is a great accomplishment) but none finished higher than 10th place.
the point i guess i am trying to get at without taking up to much more digital space is where are the clubs that just want to train and build players?
players (probably more accurate is parents) are so into being on the "top" team that in reality that top team really isnt all that great. this city can not have enough clubs to field teams for all the parents that want their DD's only to play on a "top team".
i just think the LS region can be so much better if players and yes coaches too stuck around a little longer with programs to actually benefit from the knowledge base there. the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th team should be a clubs talent pool and not their neighbors backyard. every year players and coaches alike have to go through a new clubs learning curve. but the kids and players that leave every other year barely get one good year of training in for every two years of time and money invested.
i guess in my dumb little world i live in i would like to see more kids being program kids instead of all this moving around year after year. i seriously doubt that if the talent pool is so deep at TT, Stars or WB or any other club around, that if their 2nd, 3rd and 4th teams were battling for a JO Open bid having the #2 next to their team name really wouldnt matter all that much. players and parents both have way to much ego on the line when it comes to my DD will only play on a "top" team. but are they actually really better players for it? could they have learned more faster and more efficiently?
bottom line is the LS region will never really grow and be as competitive as the Cali or Midwest teams as long as we are all "stealing" players from the same talent pool and or moving around just for the sake of a BBD that really isnt all that bigger and certainly isnt better.
