I agree Phaedrus. Perhaps this is one point John made that I disagree with. I think the emphasis on a "unified champion" is silly. Junior
volleyball does not need an undisputed 14 or 15 year old National Champion. It only serves to stoke the egos of Club Directors and parents.
Save the National Championships for College or the professional ranks and concentrate on putting on great end-of-season events that combine great volleyball
with fun and with all the other bells and whistles John notes. This is one reason the JVDA-USAV split doesn't bother me. The more great events at the end
of the year, the better, as they will have to compete in an open market for teams and they'll have to work to provide the best products at the best price.
I have no worries even if there are multiple end-of-year events competing directly with each other, that my daughter can find plenty of strong competition to
end her season.
So while I'd love to see USAV make all the changes John suggests, I'd be just as happy if there was another alternative available that did the
same.
(Note that for us Californians, because of our school schedule the only options now are JOs, JVDA, and Festival, not the others you mentioned).
