Well it looks like Coach Stubbs lived up to my prediction that I made last Oct. She lead the team to 44 straight conf losses. She also managed to run off 2 of 4 players she signed last year. Lauren, which was her best player and Meghan are no longer with the team. This is 2nd year in a row in which she has lost her top player. There is something truly wrong with the vball program when players continue to leave. The administration continues to let this coach run it in the ground. Well, I guess the next recruiting class will be the one. Probably not, b/c those players will figured her out pretty quickly and will exit following the season also. The sad thing is that former and future players deserve better, but State administration will continue to ignore the vball program. I look for 2008 to be more of the same, which includes continuing the streak to 66 conf losses and more players leaving. It's a shame b/c the fans of state deserve better.

I am sorry to hear their MVP Lauren has left the team. With such a good school, Great City, and fully funded program, 44 straight ACC losses, is unacceptable-- and sad. Rita had at least 5 scholarships her first year and 6-7 her second year so there is really no excuse. Lesson to be learned-- Good assistant coaches do not necessarily make good head coaches. GOPACK

With Coach Horsman taking the helm at Terrapin Station (for you Dead fans), look for UM to quickly ascend to the top of the league. Obviously Duke is very formidable year in and year out but after that, it is anybody's league (except NCSU perhaps?); hopefully he along w/NC and GaTech can really work the league up a little. Is Club Volleyball growing in Atlanta, Charlotte and DC? The league needs strong (and deeper) junior programs there.

Maryland and Virginia will push the rest of the conference, which will be forced to step it up or get out of the way.
NC State is just a disaster. All they've gotten out of their hire is a big, loud person yelling in the stands. |

Our A5 club had our 12-1 team finish second in a 14 Power (Open everywhere else) event a few weeks ago, so we're getting young talent into the game much earlier than 5-6 years ago and it's paying off as our 14s and 15s are playing at a higher level than ever have before. Tech is getting the best of the talent that wants to stay home with setter Mary Ashley Tippins (a 2007 Senior Ace) and back row players Jordan McCullers and Lisa Carlson. They have a commitment from rising senior hitter Monique Mead. When she gets there in 2009, Tech will have 4 players from the Atlanta area on the roster. Of the 3 Senior Aces from Georgia in 2008, Betsy Smith got away to Florida, Courtney Fletcher is going to Michigan, and Mary Chaudoin is going to Indiana. Don't know about Charlotte and DC, but there is a very good club in the Raleigh-Durham area called "Triangle" that puts out some great players - 7 of them to the ACC in the past 3 years. Katie Camp to UCLA and Katie Kabbes to Penn State (joining Triangle alumna Megan Hodge) top their 2008 class. |

Yes, NC State hasn't had a winning season since before the coach before the coach before the CURRENT coach. It's a long-standing mess, and nobody is happy with it. FYI, NC State's AD is very, VERY slow to change a coach under any circumstances. There will be no quick hook.
And I will ask again...do you KNOW that "something is going on" at NC State? Would you mind sharing it? Or are you just wildly guessing? |

I saw on another thread that the APR ranking were making some news. The ACC with one exception scored well with Boston College, Duke, UNC, and Virginia
receiving perfect scores of 1000. Others with APR's of 980 or above are Maryland 990, Wake Forest 989, Miami 985, Virginia Tech 985, Clemson 984, and FSU
980. NC State came in last with 942. The NCAA calculates the Academic Progress Rate (or "APR" for short) to determine how effective programs are at
ensuring that their student-athletes are successfully moving forward towards graduation.
