I know this is a little silly, but did anyone
else think this year JO apparel did not hit the mark? Our players and parents were really excited about purchasing JO T-shirts, etc.
We arrived on July 1st, and there were absolutely no smalls left in any style of top. Our entire 16's team wanted Adult smalls......... it was amazing to
me how many L, XL, XXL were available.... most top tier volleyball players I have seen are in darn good shape and would be a size medium a most. I know
parents are L and XL, but what about the girls.
Also..... The green sweatshirt was a bust with every girl on every team I talked to -- and yes they did have smalls in this, but...... as you know with
teens... it is all about style. The pink T-Shirt was perfect for grandmas.....
In the end -- I bought 2 XL long sleeve T-shirts for my husband -- BOGO free, my daughter left empty handed.
SUGGESTION
I have a great suggestion, how about survey teams for sizes -- it could even be done on this website, and how about having players design the 2009 JO apparel??
-- Have a contest, get all our very talented volleyball player artists involved. I know our girls loved many of the custom team/club T- shirts that were made
just for their trip to JO's.
I know it is hard to plan for thousands.....

My step-daughter would not have purchased the hoodie, but the club got them for all the girls. She'll keep wearing last years (the white one), which was
very popular.

I think the reason behind the JVDA t-shirt booth being SWAMPED on day one was as a Mom I know that if I want a small t-shirt, I better be there in line in the
morning first thing, DAY 1. We all laughed as we stood in the line for an hour to check out, that we had to be there if we wanted the smalls... of course they
had the last laugh, as this vendor continued to print shirts over the weekend if they ran out of a particular size/color that you wanted, and we all could have
come back later..... So one of the complaints from the tournament was actually self induced....

You're right, they can't please everyone but maybe the green sweatshirt could have been avoided if they took a preliminary poll.
One way to do it is, post the designs on the web, potential sweat/tshirt styles, and their sizes. This way players could select the design, style and size they'd most likely buy. This wouldn't be an order, just a poll to give the design company an idea of what and how much to produce. I think they started giving the green hoodie away by the end of the last day... |

Nationals t-shirts seem to be uglier than any other tourney and this year was an all time low. Daughter tried hard to find something and struck out....even
with dad's $$$. Likewise at AAU the only t shirt worth having was the simple design that they gave the players.

Eyespawn III qualifeyes for the 1st time in 16 club. We head to the t-shirt area a couple of hours preyeor to the start of her first match on her 1st day of
competition and find none (zero) in size small. Although Eye am certain some of those 17's and 18's were buying shirts too teyeght, this was on
Tuesday and Eye thinks this was extremely poor planning. Although a t-shirt that actually fitted would not have been the most memorable momento of this trip,
not having one was certainly near the bottom.
Desiring a XXL to hang loosely around meye "sculpted" frame, Eye looked for himself. They had some - in pink and another one in bright yellow with pink accents. Who thought that one out? We got the dark green one for Eyespawn II and she loves it. |

We had the same problem at our regional event. It baffles me that professional silk screeners don't bother to check what sizes are most popular. I
can't image what they would have sold if large and XL weren't the only options on the second day.

First thing we noticed were how designs this year were not very appealing. We did not purchase any of the clothing. Rather, we printed our own shirts and
they were much happier (as were parents with the cost) with those.

We went to boys JO's this year and my girls loved their stuff. They had black, dark brown, and gray shirts and with simplier designs. The girls stuff is so
girly with designs that are to busy!! I noticed that at all of the qualifiers too. The AAU stuff really only had the one light blue color and that was it.

men at these tournaments and the shirts this year were not made for men. remember a lot of these teams are coached by men and i would like a shirt, but not
the girly shirts there. whats up with long sleeves??? thought the vendor this year didnt do a great job.

JO's is a big deal to many players, too bad so many left empty handed. We still wear our JO shirts from previous years, and it is always a fun
conversation piece. Sad we (the girls) do not have one from this year.
I think it was great that at JDVA they made more shirts when they ran out! I think they would be very easy for any local vendor to do..... but first we need to get a design the girls will want to buy. |

Looks like South Pole designed the hoodie. Every event vendor could learn a lesson from the one at JVDA. Not only did they print shirts all weekend, they would
mix-n-match logos and colors. You could pic any (or all) of their designs and put it on any color shirt in any manner that you preferred.

This "small vs. large" seems to be a problem at every large tournament we attend. In Chicago in June we played in the afternoon wave on day one.
There were no small sized shirts (except long sleeve) available after the morning wave (age 12-15). I agree with the poster who said most volleyball players
are physically fit and many more will wear a small or medium and fewer in large/xlarge (especially at this level). How hard is it to double your small order
and cut your large in half?
At JVDA there were lots of shirts, great colors and all sizes. When they started running out of shirts/hoodies they set up a screening shop on site and allowed you to pick your size/color and they would screen onsite. Another thing I really liked was that hoodies (always popular with our girls) were priced reasonably ($25) as compared to the $50 I reluctantly paid last year at Nationals.

XP Apparel is the sole provider for USAV events. if anyione has problems with them, you need to get in touch with them. There was a time that vendors were
sold concession space for JO's. All Volleyball in St. Louis would have an area set up and some other jewelry vendor would have their area set up. I think
the USAV did away with the other vendors in order to have a single vendor they can deal with every year. of course, we don't know what kind of kickback
deal the USAV has with XP Apparel either.

We were there the first day, and I wandered through the shirts but still didn't see one I thought my daughter would like. As it turns out, there was ONE.
But by Day 2, all they had left were the XL and XXL..........should have hauled her in there on Day 1. Ridiculous........and the hoodies, I agree, were goofy
looking, not to mention just plain ugly............

When her mother and I first saw the display table covered with them, we couldn't believe how bad they looked. However, this was our daughter's first
JO and she bought one of the hideous green monster hoodies and loves it to death. It's July, a million and half degrees outside, and she still manages to
find opportunities to wear it. Ahh, sweet youth.
BTW, I'm sure that when she starts dating (in about 12 years if I have any say in the matter), she'll be dragging home things we find even less attractive than that stupid green hoodie. |
