We watched a little of all the age groups today. The Japan team is awesome - perfect defense. They were very fun to watch. The crowd was five deep for their
matches. You probably checked the results by now, so I don't to replay them for you. There are a ton of recruiters (as I am sure there at JOs too). Their
are two really nice championship courts - everyone is hoping to be able to play there.

Some things at the JVDA championships are kind of a mess. The line for t-shirts is ridiculous.Nothing I have ever seen before at an event. Waiting over an
hour for a t-shirt is insane. LONG lines at the ticket booths, limited choices of foods, horrible officiating ( at least on our court). In our division, having
to ref 2 courts at the same time. This is tough on teams with small numbers.

Day one was a bust for us, but the event isn't too bad. Yes, there was a long line to buy shirts, but at least they are printing shirts on site. If they
didn't have your size you could place an order and it would be ready when you came up to pay.
We had a ref that didn't call much, but mid way through the pool we got another ref. He was very "permissive" as well, but nothing like the 1st one. The only thing I see that doesn't compare to other events is you can not play back in. If you take 3rd or 4th in pool, you are going to flight at best. |

that bad though, since they haven't played each other since March.
Our perspective may vary from other JVDA teams, as this tourney has provided us the opportunity to play in our age group, a caliber of teams we
wouldn't see otherwise this season. Both teams are on that borderline of great club level/midrange open level caliber, and the results bear that out.
Both Hawaii teams missed out on Dallas this year, and this is an excellent alternative.

Gold brackets:
18 Open SPVP 18 elite vs team z japan vs munciana Munciana looked prertty fired up in a match I saw yesterday. The Ref had to tell them to calm down they were celebrating so much (I think the ref thought it was inapproriate because they were so far ahead in the match) 17 Open Illini Elite vs. Mava SPVB vs. Kiva SPVP got to the gold the gold by defeating sting in five close sets 16 Open The first four pools top finishers got byes with the remaining pools needing a challenge match. Challenge matches are not complete but, not huge surprises so far Fusion KIVA Mava SPVB already in gold Alliance has also not lost a match but based on their original seeding, they had to play a challenge match to reach the gold. 15 Open Not yet final, but teams so far are: Team Z Capital Sky High Kiva 14 Open Lions vs. Munciana Kiva vs. SPVB 13 Club (no Open) KIVA (have not yet dropped a set) Milwaukee Sting gold (have not yet dropped a game) Milwuakee Sting lack Team Z TAV Mava two more teams to come |
