Here's the place to talk about what's going on in Dallas, like Northern Lights' win over TCA in 18 Open and Skyline's barely win over Austin
Juniors, a match in which both sides had match points.

Whoa...that's a statement match for Northern Lights right out of the gate. Pool 3 looks like a barn-burner, with all matches having gone 5.

Hmm... | ||

...there is simply nothing nothing to compare JR Nationals and this time of the year. Just look at what AES is reporting! Four of the Top-8 seeds in 18Open
arrive in Dallas and lose their first match! Some will have their goals are realized, others their hearts broken...and I've got a seat on the front row
starting tomorrow!

Can't Compare | ||

Reporter is correct. There is nothing to compare it to. In the recent past all the top teams were at the same year end tournament.
Four of the Top-8 seeds in 18Open arrive in Dallas and lose their first match!How many of those would be top 8 seeds if everyone was in the same place??? |

Must . . . resist. . . urge . . . to utter . . . J-word . . . in every thread.
Boring. Don't know. Don't care. Have fun. We will too. |

Two big finishes | ||
|
Two great finishes in pool 2.
With her team down 13-8 in game five against Colorado Juniors, AVA setter Brittany Crislip turns to Jessie Hays down the stretch and the little leftside delivers as AVA rallies for a 16-14 win to finish the day 1-1. Colorado falls to 0-1. Earlier, Shannon Hawari opened game five on a tear with four kills and two blocks as TAV jumped up 10-3 on Northern Lights then coasted home 15-8 to finish 2-0 on the day. More later. |

What's with the forfeits?
|
Okoboji and South Shore forfeit matches, TCA a game -- as I sit here in a Dallas hotel room, anyone know the facts surrounding these punitive actions?

It is my understanding that TCA arrived late and had to forfeit their first game against Northern Lights.

It was a registration issue. Still trying to ascertain the specific facts surrounding it.

Registration issue? Don't most teams register well before their first match if not the day before?

we were told by the girls on the team that their coach drove up from Houston this morning to check his team in (since they didn't play until 3:00) and
because he didn't check them in last night, they had to forfeit their entire first match.

Must check in the day before
|
USA Volleyball sent out notices to the registered team rep and head coach, last week, that they MUST check in at least the day before they play and that
failure to do so would result in a forfeit of their first game.

TAV sweeps AVA to start day two
|
Jordan Raines had a couple of kills down the stretch to cool any thoughts of an AVA rally and Kelsey Mahoney's dump closed out TAV's 25-17, 25-14,
25-17 sweep of AVA Asics as the two Texas teams began day two action.
