Does anybody have any info or predictions for the 16 open division of JOs?

Not so fast... | ||

Northern Lights was the team to beat last year (15 Open) and crumbled under the pressure, taking a tie for third. I agree that team is stacked and poised to
win it all but it has to get past KC Extreme, Encinitas Wave and a healthy-for-the-first-time-this-year Sunshine. Don't give those medals away so fast...

I agree. Wave and Sunshine are both tough teams along with most of the others from So Cal. I think it will be a tough tournament with top five still up for
grabs.

I hope they don't read your post on the way back from AAUs where only Young Guns scored more than 18 points (22,19)against them in any set (info from another thread). In all honesty, I'm wondering the club's logic in having this team, or at least some of the players play, basically unchallenged, in the 16s division this year. Maybe it was a team desire to get back to Nationals and finish the deal that they failed to do as 15s, but to sacrifice an entire season of limited competition to win Nationals, well I guess that might be a noteworthy goal. If I remember JT's ranking, NL has not lost a match at 16s or 17s this season. Not my call and I don't have a dog in the fight at 16s but someone asked for a prediction and if I was laying odds, NL would be the overwhelming favorite. Have seen them a couple of times this season and they're just big, scary, complete team playing at a different level than the other 16s I've seen.

In no particular order but let's review some small facts:
NL - Undefeated this year and only tested by Club Fusion 16's the SPRI tournament (JVDA) & Young Guns at AAU Nationals.Won 2 NQ's. Sunshine, Encinitas, LB - Put on good showings within their respective regions and I believe Wave won the California qualifier. I do not have too much information on them but I do not recall them doing the SPRI, Dells or AAU tournaments in and effort to try their hands at non-Cali competition. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong. Young Guns, TAV, Tornados - Young Guns went undefeated in 16's until the AAU finals & won Lone Star. TAV tied for third at the Dells, won Reno & finished 2nd at NEQ & Lone Star. Tornados tied for third at AAU's and defeated the #5 (MAVA) and #6 (SPRI) ranked teams in the nation on the way. Won NEQ and tied for 5th at LS. So my medal winners come from those 3 states. |

...way to hedge your bets there in picking five of the top eight seeds in your prediction to medal. When you go to the horse races to you also bet every
horse to assure a win?
Would have to post a "homer-call" on your inclusion of Tornados and Long Beach and associated disregard of both Extreme and MAVs.

Why California teams can't go to the Dells or the AAUs
|
... Just like the New York and other North East regions, in California high school classes and finals and etc... are just ending.
California squads would greatly enjoy going to the Prep Volleyball Classic and etc..., it is just a question of which is more important... education or volleyball. & so, there is really only a slim to none possibility of attendance, which is too bad. Sheesh, to NY squads the Junior Olympics are still too early, as kids there have to determine which is more important, graduation or volleyball. It is too bad some people haven't figured this out yet. By moving the JOs earlier, kids are losing out. |

But whenz does the school year starts in NY and CA...Thanksgiving? Or doez they get a moth off during the school season or something? Going to school until June 22? WOW! |

Varies, our local High School finished 6/11.

New York starts the Tuesday or Wednesday following Labor Day. The school calendar generally has a winter and a spring break, plus 7-10 bad weather days built
into the schedule. After moving to NY from TX, it was hard for my kids to get used to school into late June. While many schools finished this week, a lot of
them, including mine, don't get out until next Friday, June 27th!

Don't you hate it when the thread rolls completely off track?
"Would have to post a "homer-call" on your inclusion of Tornados and Long Beach and associated disregard of both Extreme and MAVs" -this maybe why: NL v Extreme - 16,21; NL v MAVs - 19, 17 Also, will KC Ex be healthy? Their setter was injured at NLQ... looks like Tampa Bay was left out...finishing second at both Big South and NLQ losing only (i believe) to NL in both finals. |

16 JO Open | ||

I know that Northern Lights is the #1 seed but doesn't the USA A-1 team, which they have 2 members, have to be in Puerto Rico on July 3rd? What are the
girls on this team and all of the other teams going to do since finals of JO's for 16's is July 4th? If they have to leave doesn't this change the
dynamics of who will finish 1st? Why did USA volleyball not have the 16 division earlier to accommodate this conflict?

USA volleyball don't care about JO, they only care about the cash flow. I would think they would have the younger groups play first but instead USA treat
them more of in the way little sister>>>>

Over constrained problem...
|
I have not done the homework, but I think that between the skews in school schedules and the international placement of USA tournament (which USA has no
control over) don't leave a lot of wiggle room for scheduling. My guess is that they scheduled the older age groups early to try and maximize
opportunity... They probably didn't expect a lot of A1 kids to be playing 16s is my guess.

Round of eight. Lights vs. Tx Tornadoes, TAV vs. Mavs, Wave vs. Willowbrook, Young Guns vs. KC X
Round of four. Lights vs. TAV and KC Xtreme vs. Wave The Finals. Lights vs. Wave Wave wins final in 5 |

hmm...a texas team in each match of the gold...doubt it. Although I do think those teams are all good enough to get to the gold (save Willowbrook), the chances
that 1/2, or 4 of the 8 teams to reach the gold bracket to be from Texas is not likely.
in regards to NL and the national team, i'm going to bet that, although the schedules conflict, NL will play with their complete line up over the duration of the tournament. |
