I was there but was not at the 17's final. I was, however, at the 18's final and I believe something similar happened as far as awards go. I need to qualify that I am a MN Select Parent and we had 3 selections on the "all tournament team" as you called it. Let me say this. There were probably 3 different ways that each and every selection could have been made. Having witnessed the 18's final, which, in my estimation was the best JO VB match I have ever seen, there was not one kid on either team who did not leave it all on the court. The first place team; Fusion Black, who by the way, was defeated by the 2nd place team earlier in the tournament, could have had any of the selections. Their libro/defensive specialists twin from their white team was the recipient of the best digger award. The coach of the Fusion white team took over a program half way through the season and the level of competition from the white team - which was probably considered their 2's team was amazing. They beat both M-1 and MN Select on previous days of the competition. I guess what I am saying is that the level of competition was very good at the top tier and that the decisions were based on what was going on throughout the tourney. I think anyone watching the championship match for the 18's could make the arguement that it could have gone either way. There was something like 14 match points between the two teams. Neither the 1st or second place teams coach won the award. THis is a game of points and having watched it for many years, I can tell you that I would not want to be the person making the selections. I applaud John for all the hard work and effort that went into this tournament. I realize that it's all open for speculation and simply wanted to give you my perspective.
