There is a lot of flooding throughout the state of Wisconsin, but the Interstates should be good. Please check your local areas to make sure no roads are closed and leave yourself plenty of time to travel. We will see you in the Dells!

Dells Weather Update |
Lead | |
|
Many of may have seen National coverage of the storms that have ripped through Wisconsin the last several days. I am happy to report that these storms have not
affected the Chula Vista Resort or the Wisconsin Dells Center. In fact, the weather looks to be clearing up and should be very nice for the duration of the
event.

Here are links that indicate closures.
http://www.channel3000.com/news/16553755/detail.html http://www.co.sauk.wi.us/data/news/flood_main.html That TV channel reports this. The Dells are in Sauk/Columbia County. Columbia has over 40 roads closed Sauk County officials are telling all residents to stay off roads. Numerous roads are closed and several landslides have been reported. So if anyone out there knows how to get there tomorrow let me know. |

"Authorities have closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 39/90/94, near mile marker 108, near the city of Portage in Columbia County. Interstate 39
northbound is closed between I-90/94 and Cascade Mountain Road. The Wisconsin State Patrol said that there's no designated alternate route. Motorists
should expect delays and are advised to avoid traveling in this area."
From the maps, I think this is the interstate going from Madison to the Dells. So who knows another route? |

Just so you know, if I94/90 doesn't open by tomorrow and you are coming frm the South, you should be able to take Hwy 12 from Madison and follow it into
the Dells area. It will bring you in by the Kalahari (past the casino). Hope back on 94W to get to exit 87 in case getting through the Lake Delton area
isn't possible. and we thought driving issues were done with the snow!

I90/94 right around where 39 heads north and just before the Baraboo exit is having issues. See below. Talking to my dad who lives in Baraboo, he indicated
parts of HWY 12 were also closed. He said they received well over five inches of rain yesterday, so rivers and creeks around there have not yet peaked.

Just jumped on some links and neither Dane County nor Sauk County is reporting that HWY 12 is closed. Thus, as suggested by WIVBCrazy, taking HWY 12 up from
Madison would be the best alternative to the interstate.

Just saw a news report from this morning (Friday) which indicated HWY 12 was indeed re-opened. It had been closed south of Baraboo at Sky Hi road and at the
ordinance plant (BAAP). As long as there is no more rain, should be good to go that way.

Things are clearing up. | ||

They just reopened I-90/94 from Mauston to the Dells so travel from Minneapolis should be fine. They are telling us that they expect I-90/94 from Madison to
the Dells to reopen as well. Same regarding I-94 from Milwaukee to Madison.
For the latest updates, please use the Classic website at http://classic.prepvolleyball.com. We will keep you as informed as we are. Also, just to let everyone know, things are great here at the resort and the Dells Center. The rains have not affected anything and over 93% of the businesses in the Dells are open to the public. Drive safely and we look forward to seeing everyone up here. --Eric |

Any openings yet? Planning on leaving the Rockford area at 8am. Deciding between 90-12 or 90-51-16. Any thoughts?

Check the Chula Vista Resort site, as they are updating often.
It's another beautiful sunny day here. Chance of storms today and tomorrow then wall to wall sunshine for the next five days. Seems bizarre to be talking about road conditions when it's so nice. Everyone travel safely out there. We'll be here when you arrive. |

from the classic web page
Last updated at 8:40am on 6/14/08. "Unfortunately, as of 8:40am, I-90/94 from Madison to the Dells has not been reopened. Our suggestion is to take I-90/94 to Madison and exit on Hwy 12/18 going West. You can stay on Route 12 all the way to the Dells." FYI from someone who lives here There are more storms possible for this afternoon so if you are coming from the Chicago area, definitely take 90 toward Rockford - don't go through Milwaukee. Odds are if that area of the "I" opens it will close again with a few drops. Really having a problem in by Johnson Creek. If you can't stay on 90/94 then 12 is your best option. Stop at the welcome center and pick up a Wisconsin map if there are any left. My suggestion if you are coming from Illinois is to hop on 14 in Janesville and follow that up to 12 but only do that if you know for sure you can't stay on 90/94. |

Just a bit more advice; have alternate plans to your alternate plans. There are areas around Baraboo (which is where 12 goes through) that have also had some
road closings. Heading down hwy 16 to my home yesterday afternoon things were backed up through Poynette. People were out of their cars talking to other cars,
getting thigs from their trunks.....not moving at all. Poynette isn't exactly a suburb of Portage.
The saving grace (maybe) for hwy 12 is the dam in Sauk. I'm not sure if they are able to alleviate any of the issues north of the dam but they may. John is correct, it is beautiful. It's just been one of those years and we are only half-way through. |

Most importantly, please don't freak out. I made it from Milwaukee in the midst of severe nastiness and nothing like that is forecast again.
It continues to be a hot, cloudless day in The Dells, where the Jet Boats and golf course are getting equal use. |

Is it true that the lake is gone?
|
|||
Coach Scott |
|||
|
Yes, Lake Delton is gone. If you have seen the X-Men movie, "The Last Stand" and there is that scene where the water has been evaporated from that
lake, it's a bit like that. It was/is a man-made lake so it will be back in due time.
It's ironic that a place known for it's water parks has temporarily lost it's only body of water. |
