"Open is Open, and Club is Club, and never the twain shall meet."
The idea that there be a "front door" and "back door" way into the Open Divsion at Nationals is ridiculous. Open pays their dues, and costs, by traveling to huge tournaments and playing all-comers, from any state over a 3-day tournament. To award a bid and the same status to a group of "homers" that win a freaking regional in a two or three court facility, against a vast majority of local Club level teams is, again, ridiculous.
Add the Top-5 in the National Club Division to the Open Division for a play-off at Nationals? Again, lunacy prevails. Open, a 3-day, tough schedule at JRNationals where every match is a war. On the fourth day, we'll then dump some Club level teams in with you that have been "skating" for 3-days, and possibly all season, against weak competition to compete for the Championship.
Back to the drawing board...but the "I want to play Open, and maybe win an Open National Championship, but not pay the price" ain't gonna fly here...
