I definitely see where you are coming from, durab. I'm not going to jump on the bashing wagon. And I don't think some of what I am reading is necessary. I really don't see why some are having a problem understanding what you are saying.

durab1 has modified their position as this thread has progressed. To castigate others for that issue is a strange response. I understand now that the evolved position of durab1 is that the initial Seedings for the Nike Classic - Pearland Tourny should be a Tribute to how teams did in 2007. The initial Seedings given for the Nike Classic are Forward Looking while you and durab1 are in favor of remaining in the past (2007). If others are in favor of the position espoused by you and durab1, let them join in and lend their support.

Actually, it makes perfect sense, but, I guess you need to have posted a certain amount before you can give an opinion that doesn't match up with others. I'm certainly not going to agree with someone just because they have more posts.....ridiculous. I appreciate the post. At least someone has something interesting to say on this blog. Why does it make sense? As I pointed out earlier in this thread, if the people who worked on the Seedings in the Spring (their Dead Time) have saved themselves hours of work in Mid-August (their Busy Time) by getting a headstart on their task of Seeding, isn't that a good thing?

I asked the question of where to insert teams that weren't UIL 5A in 2007 such as SAA, Hockaday, Hutto, Friendswood, Living Stones, New Braunfels etc into the mix of 5A teams and I have been waiting for a satisfactory method to be given. At this point in time, just give any method so that I can get an idea of how it would work.

I don't see why you can't start your pools on where teams ended up, and then change the pools once the teams start playing.

I have already pointed out the time management issues that those involved are juggling between their Dead Time (Spring) and their Busy Time (Mid-August). If you and durab1 are unable to appreciate that, then we will continue to be in opposite corners on the matter.

That introduces a Judgemental (Human) element into the Seedings which appears to run contrary to what you and durab1 are suggesting. Somebody would have to determine which among Cinco Ranch, Dulles, RR Westwood and Magnolia had a tougher road to losing in their Regional Semifinals. I don't know of anybody doing this in a purely mathematical sense for Texas High School Volleyball which would tend to eliminate the human factor as much as possible.

In August, too, who went to the stronger tournaments and who did they play? At least then, you can begin to seed them based on how they played.

Duncanville, Spring Branch, Allen, Fraulein Volleyfest, Northeast and Katy are the ones that immediately come to mind in terms of Tournaments prior to Nike Classic - Pearland. There are others, but those mentioned will suffice for this discussion. There are a limited number of teams (Amarillo and Westlake perhaps the two most notable) that do extensive travel across Texas, so that is going to be working off of a small result set.

Clements, Clear Creek and I think Clear Lake & Clear Brook tend to be the usual Houston area teams that travel North for the Duncanville Tournament. Unless somebody is able to be able in multiple places at once for several weekends in Early to Mid-August to judge, there will be a certain amount of Human Element involved to determine which Tournaments are stronger than others. Of course, the Clear Creek coach could tell the Nike Classic Seedings group of his impression on the field strength of the Duncanville Tournament, but that runs into the time management issue that I have mentioned previously in this thread.

Now, come August, those inexperienced players could step it up, and possibly making a case for their lower seeded teams to be ranked higher, and some possible changes could be made.

Wouldn't those inexperienced players already be exhibiting some ability to step it up in the Club Season that is nearing a conclusion? Granted, there is a difference between playing well at the 14's, 15's and 16's level in Spring - Early Summer and then playing Varsity against older players a few months later. Some people will tend to Project for teams based on what their incoming players did in Club while you and durab1 appear to take a wait and see attitude about this. We will remain in opposite corners on this matter. I am not opposed to making changes based on results in August, but I do appreciate why the group seeding the Nike Classic had to get a headstart on this project instead of waiting until Mid-August.

Isn't that exactly what durab has been saying?? I think so. Changes being made in August based on how they play that month. Hmmm, what a concept.

I have already addressed this much earlier in this thread, but I will repeat it again since you appear to have overlooked it.

They had to do some changes last year after the Duncanville Tourny, so they were able to get the seedings correct in August. They will likely do some changes again after the Duncanville Tourny.

So, Chickfila helped with the seedings??

Keep trying and you will eventually get it.
