The 18s, 15s and 14s seem the most impacted. 3 of the 4 medalist in 14 open last year are not going to JOs as 15s. 4 of the top ten (currently ranked) in the 18s won't be a JOs. And 3 of the eight top teams from last years 13 group will not be JOs this year as 14s. This compares with the other two age groups where none of last year's 16 open medalists are JVDA this year and only two of the top eight teams last year are JVDA 17s this year. In the current 16 bracket, only one team in the top eight open last year is in JVDA this year and none of the medalists. So, I would tend to agree with MAVA dad that the 15s are loaded with talent in JVDA this year. But, I also agree with others that there are very, very talented teams in 15 JOs. A win at either year-end tournament is a huge accomplishment.

Registered Member Posts: 652 (05/20/08 7:27 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	What the heck, I found the data, so I decided to summarize. 18 Open Field: missing from this year's field are eight teams that finished in the top 16 in last year's 17 open field (50% of the top 16 teams in case someone needed help with the math) plus the SPVB 18 Elite team that won last year at 18 with a ton of 17s. Of the 8 in the top 16 last year, 5 of them were in the top eight (62.5%). 17 Open Field: missing from this field are six teams that finished in the top sixteen (37.5%) and two that were in the top eight in 16 Open last year (25%). 16 Open Field: missing from this year's field are five teams that finished in the top sixteen (31.3%) and three that were in the top eight in 15 Open last year (37.5%) 15 Open Field: missing from this year's field are five teams that finished in the top sixteen last year (31.3%) and three that were in the top eight in 14 Open last year (37.5%) 14 Open Field: missing from this year's field are six teams that finished in the top sixteen in 13 National last year (37.5%) and three that finished in the top eight in 13 National last year (37.5%).

Interesting that when you look at the founding members (not just members, but founding members) of the JVDA it includes some really strong clubs: TAV, Texas Tornados, TCA, M1, A5, Willowbrook, Colorado Juniors, and Juggernaut that are still participating in the qualifiers this season. Are these clubs planning on moving over to JVDA next year (no qualifiers)? If these clubs moved over to JVDA, that would almost be a 50/50 split on talent between USAV and JVDA. On the other hand, how are the JVDA clubs feeling? Was the season up to their expectations? Are they going to stay with it? IMO, there was one major bonehead move that the JVDA made (Premier Scrimmage) that basically fractured the JVDA into two groups. Is it enough for those clubs excluded to go back to USAV? It will be interesting to see. From a parent perspective, the thing I valued most about the "JVDA season" was that my daughter only had to miss 1/2 day of school. I loved that aspect of it. It was also cheaper for us, but this wasn't nearly as valuable as the better match with school.
