It must have been very hot!

I was told Sunshine 18's took down SCVC, 22-25, 25-10 and 15-7. This was the second time the girls from Sunshine had SCVC's number, the first being at
Las Vegas on their way to winning that tournament. The Sunshine players must have Sammie Selskys ACL surgery and their middle's impending surgery on their
mind. I'm sure they will meet SCVC again! I heard everyone contributed and both new setters played very well. Congrats to a gutty, determined team.

mokipup-
I was so offended by their t-shirts, I don't even care how well they played. Wow- I've been a member a long time and always posted only nice things and now I think I need anti-perspirant and tissue for my pitts as people will call me out. I stand firm however, the t's were rude. Scoob |

T Shirts | ||

Someone on the team is having surgery to remove thyroid cancer. F**k Cancer is an appropriate response for anyone facing and fighting this. The girls are 17
and showing solidarity and support and making no excuses for their performance. I am more offended by parents dropping the F*** bomb (of which I am also
guilty) over a play or a call than young girls rallying around a friend. Support for this girl here would be better than complaining over such gentile
sensibilities.

Right message - wrong delivery
|
As a cancer survivor I support the message, but disagree with the delivery method. It's not just there team and 17 year olds that will read the shirt.
What about the mom who has to explain the shirt to a younger person who might have read it???

Sunshine t shirts | ||

Sorry, have to agree that there would be a better way to support their friend and the cause without using profanity. Everyone I talked to including other 17
year old girls thought the shirts were extremely offensive and downright tacky.

re: t-shirts | ||

Ok, perhaps the t-shirts were a bit over the top (I wasn't there so couldn't judge the impact they had), however the sentiment was pure and the
feelings of the girls was authentic. Cancer in a 17 year old is devastating and the girl that this awful disease visited is a wonderful young lady who is still
optimistic, cheerful and plays with great passion and athleticism. Instead of focusing on the relatively insignificant question of propriety, let's all
hope that her surgery goes really well and she recovers completely as is expected. The fact that Sunshine has gone through all these difficult times (Sammie
Selsky's ACL tear and the cancer) is a testament to the quality of their play and true love of the game. They are still a top tier 18's team that could
prove to be a dangerous opponent at JO's and might just repeat their fabulous feat at Las Vegas.

Seems to me it gives parents a good opportunity to explain to younger children just how personal a battle with cancer can be, how an explicative can express
the feelings of those affected more clearly than just about anything, how someone suffering something horrible might need to express it in a way that does
communicate outrage, and how part of that expression has to be showing the world how they feel. Sometimes 'poor taste' can also be appropriate
behavior.
[insert explicative here] polically correct behavior when it has to do with something like this. |

Not sure this is a "PC" issue as much as simple matter of being appropriate. Love the sentiment. Just not sure that's the way to go about showing
your support. Susan G. Komen Foundation fights breast cancer, but not this way.

Really, outside of their coach, club, and teammates, they're not accountable to anyone else. I'd support it in my players, my teammates, and (if I had
any) my children. It's just a dirty word.

And to follow through to the farthest logicial conclusion: If the T-Shirts had simply read "Defeat Cancer" or "Our JO Club is against
cancer" then that's it. The message stops with the people who actually physically saw them.
Having said that- I still don't know if I would allow my players to wear them. |

Fighting Cancer | ||

Hopefully none of you will have to have a teammate, child , friend or family member with this diagnosis. Unfortunately we are all touched by this disease in
one way or another. We chose to fight it, shock it, battle it together and support our teammate. Hopefully you won't have others judging your decision you
can make your own decision, as we have made ours.

people are way to uptight

If you ("you" meaning anyone who should have a similar situation) don't want to choose to fight back using the way this team did, then don't.
It's their choice. We should be focusing on healing thoughts/prayers for this young girl not judging the way they decided to unite.

Volleyball Saturday | ||

This thread started about volleyball. There was a three way tie on A1. SCVC played without two girls who made the Youth National Team over the weekend,
congrats to Jazmine and Jen. Stevi Robinson consistently hit through a triple block and passed every ball within ten feet of her. There was great playing in a
really hot gym under very trying circumstances. SCVA has some of the best teams anywhere.
