Texas High School 4-A 2008 |

Following Mango's lead, it would be great to start looking forward to some high school volleyball. We are new to the 4-A conference and really do not know
a whole lot about any of the teams. I know that Highland Park and Red Oak will be strong in Region 2, but who will be the tough teams in Region 1? I imagine
that Aledo and Boswell will be the teams to beat in District 6 if they are not too effected by graduating seniors. Opinions welcome!

Daisy in Region 1 it will be same of usuall contenders coming from the panhandle. The team to beat in region 1 should be Canyon Randall. They return most of
their top players from last years team that went to state. They are solid at setter,MB, and OH. They have a MB that plays for Young Guns 16-1 that has been
about unstoppable this club season. But Dumas and Hereford should be solid as usually from that district. As far as district 6 I agree Aledo should be tough.

Region 1 - My guess would be El Paso Burges or Chapin in District 1, don't know much about District 2, District 3 will be the usual Canyon Randall,
Hereford and Dumas dogfight, but Canyon moving up from 3A could put up a fight, District 4 will probably be Wolfforth Frenship, not sure about Abilene Cooper
moving down from 5A, then probably the Denton teams in District 5, don't know much about 6 or 7 or 8

Do not sell Hereford short in Region 1 & District 3-4A..The Herd return 5 really good hitters, an oustanding libero & 1/2 of their setting tandem from
last year..I agree that Canyon Randall will also be very strong and will compete with Hereford for the district title...Dumas & Canyon will most probably
determine the No 3 & 4 playoff spots in a very strong district.....
In District 5-4A, Denton Guyer also returns a strong group, only losing 3 from their regional semifinal team of a year ago, although they lost Erin Garvey, their strong middle... In Region 3, Magnolia returning to 4A, should contend for a berth in San Marcos.... Region 4 contenders appear to be NB Canyon & CC Calallen..... 2 1/2 months until 2-a-days!!!!! |

Hereford vs. Randall LOADED GUNS | ||
bigtex wrote: I agree with Region 1's post. You should see the matches Hereford vs. Randall have! Out of the 9 players on the #4 nationally ranked Young Guns, 7
are from either Hereford or Randall. There are 3 Young Gun players from Hereford and 4 Young Guns from Randall and they are all capable of taking over a game.
Hereford has MB Meredith Hays, OH Raegan Shelton, and RS Carley McCracken. Randall has Setter Tori Jobe, Libero Tawney Westenburg, OH Ashley Davis and MB
Aubree Piper. They know each others strengths and weaknesses, as 5 of these 7 have played together since 12's. As someone else said Dumas and Canyon are
always strong and 3-4A is truly one of the deepest districts in the state. It should be a fun season in the panhandle! |

I know it was tough for Region 1 to give Hereford and Canyon Randall such high props being such a big Dumas fan.

NB Canyon and Calallen were two senior dominated squads this past year. Callalen lost Schwirtlich and #2, both of whom set to each other, hit and dominated this squad's on court performance. NB Canyon lost its setter, Brandie Debacker (who contributed all over the court), a very effective RS and others. The Cougars have en extremely capable MB returning and it will be interesting to see what can be built around her. Canyon's coach always seems to figure it out. Dark horse in this region may well be the Knights from Schertz Steele. With junior Mckenzie Adams, they will have have one of the very best MB's (you'll see) at any level in TX. In addition, they have a couple of other girls who will be attending nationals and getting some very good experience. |

ok my 2 cents lol | ||

First I think Red Oak will be strong this year. They will have a few set backs but think they can over come them . For the denton guyer I dont see them as
strong as last year. They lost there key hitter who made this team what they are. I think I remb she was the one running the floor and if she gone I cant see
someone else stepping up like she did.
But does anyone know what midway going to look like ? I know they lost some key players but still had some key players... |

BTB, you are probably right. Lots of good insight from everyone. I wish we had more input from people in North Texas. Will Highland Park be just as strong
this year? Didn't they do really well last year? What teams made it deep into the playoffs last year? I have no idea what preseason tournaments our
coach has signed our girls up for, but I wondered if there was a Pearland equivalent for 4-A?
