bearclause wrote: How high on the list of senior aces do you typically need to be to play Ivy League (assuming the academics are there)? Are most of these players top 100, top 300 (I know I could go look but figured it would be easier to ask)? |

That's kind of an arbitrary number to go by. I've seen Ivy League recruits that were top 100, but I don't think any of those schools use the
rankings as a guide to their recruiting.

I also understand that the Ivy League has a different level of play compared to the Pac-10, Big-10, Big-12, WCC, etc with a different level of time commitment. I don't know about Cat Dailey's situation. Maybe she was ready for a change of pace, although I believe she could have been successful playing in a
strong volleyball conference. Can't fault her for choosing Yale though.

There may be a few girls playing ivy volleyball who were in the top 100 but they are the exception rather than the rule. Many of the California girls who
predominate on virtually all of the teams came out of the big name clubs but were either solid supporting players on the 1 teams or the stars on the 2 teams.
It is somewhat difficult to identify all the clubs because they are not listed on all the ivy web pages but the following California clubs all appear to have
several girls playing in the league:Encinitas;Epic;Coast;TCA;Orange County;Long Beach;Laguna Beach;Delta Valley;SVVC;Empire;SMBC as well as girls from
Gene's Team;South Bay;Golden Bear;Vintage and Club Pacific. I am sure I left out several others.

OK- on the 1 teams I am talking about girls who were the 2nd or 3rd outsides or middles as well as DS or libero

Our daughter was not on a "top100 list" however only played in the open division at nationals, in her last year the team placed third. She played with some of the "best" recruits--had several conversations with JC and a home visit requested, however her Ivy coach was already scheduled that evening. Between being very athletic but also very academic she had her options available to do either. She like most of her college teammates decided on the academic route for the long run and are very happy with the choice. |
