Small Gift for excellent work crews |
Lead | |
|
As mentioned in a reply to another post, I'm a USAV ref trying to come up with an appropriate gift to give to truly excellent work teams. I'd really
like it to be a pin similar to those exchanged between teams in the gift exchange. I'm not opposed to buying a couple hundred pins, it's a business
expense. Just don't have any idea where to get them, especially volleyball-related pins.
Any suggestions? |

Most trophy and award shops, like Crown Trophy, can make custom pins. I just received a quote at a small shop near our facility (for gift exchange at
Nationals) and I can get a custom pin for about $1.70 each. I haven't tried to shop around and compare prices yet; I suspect I can get a better deal...

I'm finding that most of the quotes I've received are in the range that NYvbc has stated. I also am asking for a custom order, however, so that
affects the price as well.

Great Idea | ||

What a great idea, PlayaPlease. Positive reinforcement is always the way to go. My daughter still talks about the ref at Festival one year who was so
impressed with her team that he nominated them to do the "work" at the final match in their age group.
I hope your idea catches on... |

Pins, did someone say, pins? | ||
|
John Tawa just posted an article about pins (see a new tradition above). He recommends www.expresstradingpins.com
For what it is worth, on the way home home from playing, my daughter always tells me when an R1 gives her good and bad feedback. So, saying something is definately impactful with many players - but a pin would be awesome. |

You don't have to do anything big for the girls to appreciate it. I know they'd love a pin, but an R1 at a NQ gave my daughter and her work crew a few
small pieces of candy and told them they were a great work crew. They were so proud and told everyone the ref had given them a couple of pieces of candy. Not
much, but it sure made their day, especially since sweets are pretty much forbidden during tournaments. A couple of small tastes of something sweet seemed
totally decadent to them.

candy, Jolly Ranchers, Hershey's kisses, etc. but didn't know if it would be appropriate or appreciated. Like TxMom said, you don't see a whole lot
of candy at tournaments.

skor bars-----with a catchy sticker: You "SKOR"ed a perfect game!
or Kudo's granola bars: "Kudos on a fine job at scorekeeping" |

candy, Jolly Ranchers, Hershey's kisses, etc. but didn't know if it would be appropriate or appreciated.I have given out suckers...the kids love them...especially the warhead variety because they are sour...just beware the psycho coach that thinks a sucker with a few grams of sugar is going to throw off a 14 or 15 year old's metabolism for the whole day...I gave them out prior to the start of the match to encourage them to do a good job.
Fun? You mean Volleyball is supposed to be fun??

OK, so I've checked a few Sports Trading Pins website. There were a ga-zillion examples of softball/baseball pins but only a few for volleyball. Go Figure.
What I didn't see was plastic pins. I know they exist because I've received them as gifts. Anybody got a line on a manufacturer of plastic sports trading pins? The one I have is from the 2007 Senior Olympics (I was a ref) and is from the Cookville, Tennessee chamber of commerce. |
