Electronics at the scorer's table are the responsibility of the "professional" R1 on the stand. They need to give a pre-match talk to the table explaining the "no electonics" rule. They can enforce it through their R2 and, if necessary, the coach. Most of these girls are very bright and understand cheesing off the ref isn't a good move.
I'd probably have an anuerism (sp?) if I saw a competing scoreboard in the stands. This is akin to stealing the opposing team's signals. People, please, please try and wrap your mind around this: There are some things you don't have control over. How did we become this society of entitlement?
If you must impose your opinion, tell your team's coach or assistant. If you're not supposed to walk on the court do this: During the next dead ball get as close to your team's bench as you can and call over to one of the players. Pointing to the table and saying "score" to that player should get the point across. What is that? Sitting in your bag chair and bellowing like Mussolini is easier? Nevermind...
As a matter of protocol, the R2 should verify the agreement of the book to the visual score at every timeout holding the book's score as gospel. You ask the scorer what they have and compare it to what's on the flipper.
I have 2 years of HS assistant coaching experience. My main job on the bench was to use the little rotation wheel to alert the head coach when subs were coming in and to keep the score. Why assistants don't do this in club ball has always confused me. As the R1 we're supposed to just go with whatever the book has, but if one bench's score agreed with the table it would be hard not to accept that majority.
I have told no less than six coaches/club directors this season how incredible their work teams were. I'm trying to think of a small gift I could give to truly excellent crews. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
