A team can win Regionals and still turn down the bid in which case it trickles to the second place team.

What I definitely would like to see is the Regional Tournament be a truly important tournament. I would also like to see more competition against teams of the same age group.

One of the main reasons we have Prime Time as it is now is because the region pays half the fee to Nationals. When you sign up to play in Prime Time you have to put up the other half. If we were to go the other route and give it away at nationals the region might not be albe to get the same commitment.

As far as playing more with your age group... Our region has grown a lot in the last 10 years but we still aren't big enough for that. If you look at the 15's and 16's for instance, There are a handful of good 15's but after you get down to 5 or 6 the level of play drops off a bunch. The same for the 16's. The top 15's teams wont improve as fast if they don't play those 16's team for the better competition. In a few of the PL some 15's were in the top few slots.

I am not saying it couldn't change or that changing it would be bad or anything. I feel that the best soltuion might be to look at some of the top regions in the country and see what they are doing for better ideas. As we grow some more we will also be adding an American bid to our region. We have been really close to that mark the last few years.

Honestly? None. Especially with a group of teenage girls. Horrible city for a junior volleyball tournament, much less two. I understand Festival is moving and not a moment too soon for my taste (I still have 6 more years of this).

Not be able to get the same level of commitment from the region in subsidizing teams to nationals or the number of teams wanting to play in nationals ?

Also are the proceeds from these prime time tournaments the "fundraiser" for our regions half?

In our region there are less then half the teams that want to go to nationals. The tournament fee for nationals is somewhere close to $800 or so. Our region pays half of that for the Prime Time teams. When a team signs up for Prime Time they put up their $400 in case they win. If they don't win they get their money back.

I think the problem they are trying to avoid by doing this is having a team qualify and then some point later say they don't want to go because the team can't afford the air fair and stuff. In that case the region could get in trouble depending how late that came. By having the team put up half the amount they get a commitment that they will go to nationals.
