Do Qualifiers Attract Disasters?

Before Big South, Atlanta had a tornado. Now this before the Far West Qualifier:

4.2 quake shakes downtown Reno buildings as swarm of temblors hits northern Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A swarm of earthquakes capped by a 4.2 magnitude quake rattled Reno this afternoon, shaking downtown buildings and putting residents on edge throughout the city

Probably the number of "temblors" not the intensity. I didn't realize that they even felt 4.2 magnitude quakes in that area. I thought the natives were immune, but maybe Reno is too far inland.

There were nasty storms in Dallas last Thursday night prior to Lone Star...baseball sized hail and tornados in the area.

Fun? You mean Volleyball is supposed to be fun??

Northern Lights actually had nice weather.....considering the winter they had this year....perhaps they had a reverse disaster.

Ok, Big South definitely had a disaster to deal with. Here in the west we don't consider a little shaking a disaster unless it is on a scale of Loma Prieta or Northridge. Welcome to the west coast folks. Unless the buildings come tumbling down it's just another day in paradise...

I felt the quake yesterday from my Econo Lodge motel room. If there was ever a motel to suffer damage from such a tembler, it's this place. Yet no damage at all, not even a new crack to add to the many on the floor.

Looks like another 4.9 quake JUST hit about an hour before this post. It looks like it woke all the kids up in the hotel we're staying at, and I'm sure in every other hotel.

Were 30 miles away up in Truckee and the 4.9 had us a shaking too. Daughter was up in a nano second!

of problems w/ qualifiers. I think USAV should quit scheduling these qualifiers to coincide with impending disasters and other acts of nature...

ooo perhaps I spoke too soon....I think I heard Minneapolis had a wind chill temp of 24 this morning!! I am sure there are some cold tooties out there as the girls are wearing thier flip-flops around.

I think being in a earthquake would freak me out.

Here in Texas the ground does not move much.

We have to worry about those tornados.

That's the great thing about Reno/Northeastern Cali--you can have both! Actually, when I lived in Reno, we only felt a couple of earthquakes in 4 years, and they were both centered in California. They are somewhat rare in Reno; in California no one would even talk about a 5.1 quake--just business as usual, and if things are falling off the walls, we thought they were really cool

**at least there were no hurricanes during Lonestar!

It shows my age to a certain extent but that's the first thing I thought of. Who can forget Tootie, Natalie, Blair and Joe....and eventually Geri and even a much younger George Clooney (I don't remember his characters name).
