Registered Member Posts: 13638 (04/22/08 7:40 AM) Administrator Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Looking critically at the Open divisions in Dallas and having attended both the JVDA Showcase in Wisconsin and the Las Vegas Invitational, here are the teams I think could have qualified in Open had they chosen to go that route: 18s Sports Performance Team Z Munciana Club Fusion Maybe: Illini Elite, NVA, Alliance, MAVA, Rancho Valley, Sports Shack 17s Illini Elite MAVA Sports Performance KiVA Team Z Maybe: Fusion, Sting, FaR Out, Alliance 16s Fusion Sports Performance KiVA MAVA Maybe: Sting, Alliance, Dunes, Team Z, Orange County 15s Haven't seen. I'm sure I missed some, but we're talking an average of 5 teams per Open field, less than a 20% variance. I suspect if we looked at Open teams from one year to the next, you'd find the variance to be about 20% regardless. The difference here is that the missing teams this year would be serious contenders to medal or win, SPVB, Z, Muncie and Fusion at 18s, Illini Elite at 17s and Fusion, KiVA and MAVA at 16s.

Registered Member Posts: 81 (04/22/08 9:07 AM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Having just completed our NQ circuit (three NQs) for the season, I would like to state the obvious that the Open Division in which we competed was indeed weaker due to our missing friends who took the JVDA route. And I do expect that old "hole in the heart" to continue through Nationals as I love great volleyball competition, at it's highest level, with the best athletes going at it on the court. My daughter's team won this weekend at Northern Lights. Whether it was her team, the team on the next court, the team's in Club or the teams in Flight, none of them seem to have a clue, felt a loss, or less of an accomplishment by their missing friends. The environment was the same, the cheering wild as ever, and the celebrations wonderfully excessive after each win, but especially after the championship matches that were packed with fans surrounding the court. Never once was there doubt cast about who would have won if our friends had attended. USA Volleyball marches on, renewing itself like a forest after a fire. I just wish the fire, if indeed it had to occur, would have happened after my daughter leaves JRVB as, again, I love great volleyball....and while the volleyball witnessed this season at the NQs in Open was very good, it was not great.

After 9 seasons of NQ's, I thought I would miss it. I can honestly say I did not. It all feels the same to me.

We can only play Kiva, Mava, Sting, Sports P, etc. so many times. Always trying to prove that our region is better than the others was always fun, and I know my daughter thought it was cool to play a team at JO's last year from Hawaii!! I guess I will see everyone again at this weekends Zonal Tournament. Anybody got any good books to read?

This board used to be a great source of information and people with lots in common. Now it just feels like a constant arguement about USA or JVDA and what everyone is missing and who is better. Many threads lead back to this discussion, no matter what topic they started with. I bet most of the girls playing had NO choice in what program their clubs were going with and just play cause they love it!

Not all of the top talent will be represented at JO's and the JVDA nationals won't have all the best players either. Top teams from both sides of the fence will be absent and the game will suffer for it/ Hopefully the powers that be have or will learn from this year and come to some sort of agreement.

No sniping or arguing here, just parents and fans lamenting the differences and musing over the fact that life (oops I mean volleyball, same thing right???) goes on regardless of the decisions, good or bad, made at the top. All of that is testament to the fact that it really is about the girls.

Defending champ, Murphy back for senior year. The other divisions is where you'll feel the loss of Fusion, KIVA, Muncie, et al. It harkens back to the early days of Festival when they occasionally had a stronger tournament. This will be the first time some of these clubs have EVER skipped JOs.

I'd love to see them against the MAVS, who are the cream of USAV crop so far this year.
