Outside of a couple of teams in the club division which repesent my club, I didn't have a real favorite team to pull for. And since our club teams didn't have a realistic chance of winning the tournament I could sit back, enjoy the volleyball, pull for my teams when they were playing, meet new friends, talk to old ones, and have a great time.
I got to the convention center at 7:45 on Saturday morning to watch the open divisions, stayed until 8:30 on Saturday night to pull for my team and see more volleyball. At the college gym at 8:30 on Sunday to watch college ball until 3:00 as I saw my favorite club back in action. It had been too long without seeing them and I know it will be way too long before I see them back in action again. But I take what I can get.
Afterwards it was back down to the CC to watch the afternoon wave (and my favorite club team). Not a great afternoon/evening for our girls but still a joy (and frustration at times!) to watch them play. I enjoyed watching other teams and their fans; the exhiliration of both as they win a tight game and/or match along with the frustration/disapppointment on the other side of the net.
Unfortunately, I couldn't make it back down today but was still able to follow the results via the Internet.
I enjoyed watching the elite players play in the open division but I enjoyed just as much watching the club teams playing their best, even those teams that were less skilled and weren't at the tournament in hopes for a national bid. Just there to enjoy the volleyball, the camadarie, and, dare I say about the out of town teams, the opportunity to go to the Mall of America.
Give me a volleyball weekend anytime!
