I thought he was still a coach. I know we don't card parents. However.... there are these guys and gals in green shirts, called arbitrators... they can do
things!

It's what gives "color" and excitement to this game. Different strokes for different folks and all that. Apparently, the more even-tempered refs
figure that if they ignore him, then he doesn't exist and he won't matter. Now, if I were a ref, I'd probably get down from my stand and beat the
crap out of this obnoxious idiot. Glad I'm not an official.

Lets just say I have come across some a hole like him at a match. I remb once a dad got mad because I was cheering for a team and his kid played on other team.
He told me to shut the f up. I told him maybe he needs to move because I was sitting there alot longer then he had been. He then told me he was going to kick
my a_ _ . So I got up to move and a ref heard what he said guess what...The police where called and he was giving a ticket...He even used his foul mouth around
the cops then gave me the bird...yap he got another ticket...I just sit there with a smug grin on my face....But the thing was if this wasnt around kids I
would have drag him outside and gave him a Texas whipping lol....But just remb keep a good head about dads and moms who do this...in the long run it will catch
up to them....oh and that guy who got the tickets other parents on the team came up and thanked me for doing it...they said he need to be checked like that....

I started wearing wearing earplugs as a referee recently to block out the whistle and constant noise. Much to my delight...they also block out the obnoxious
fan comments...
Fun? You mean Volleyball is supposed to be fun??

I first met this "nut job" when he was an unruly teenager. His personality has never changed...in fact, if you can believe it ...he has actually
mellowed over the last 30+ years.
Too bad he poisons the great game of volleyball with his foul language, bad temper and unsportsman like conduct. Such a bad example for young and old alike. He shot himself in the foot with his big ego and bad attitude and his beach volleyball days were short lived. I saw him commentating at a high school playoff game in '07. He does know "volleyball", but it's too bad he is not respected by both peers and parents. He could really add something positive to this sport if he had more self control and discipline. |

question.. | ||
VolleyDad9 wrote:But wouldn't earplugs also block out things that referees need to hear to be good referees? Hearing a touch helps confirm that you saw one. Listening for a serve while you're looking at the players on the other side for an out-of-rotation call helps - it's like the baseball umpire who looks at a runner's foot touching first base while he listens to the sound of the ball in the mitt. How about listening to the captain when they have a question? For that matter, how about listening for a coach or players exhibiting conduct that requires a yellow or red card? Referees also listen for double hits when they watch them. How about a team that yells "ball" to let you know that another ball entered the court? For that matter, if earplugs block out the whistle, as you put it, wouldn't that mean that you don't hear the R2's whistle? |

Never mind... I looked into it further and discovered that there is practically a cottage industry in earplugs for referees. Sounds like (no pun intended) they
reduce the decibel level while still allowing some level of hearing.

According to the NFHSA rulebook, you never based a judgment call on sound, however I agree that hearing it confirms the seeing it but sometimes the gym is so
loud that I have to wear them when reffing HS matches but it does look bad when you have to take them out to confer with a captain for whatever reason. But
with that many courts next to one another at a qualifier I would assume is might be a "necessary evil"

What is his connection to Falyn Fonoimoana? Has anyone else noticed that where she goes, Piper and Paige go? Did he coach them at Roxy Beach? then they went
to Golden West, now SCVC. curious...

Same team, look for the guy with loafers who always stands on the competitions side. He gives OB a run for his money! I guess for some, hanging on to the meal
ticket is necessary.

The Connection is Scholarships to USC | ||

Mick Haley is also a coach and advisor to SCVC. Additionally SCVC is owned and operated partly by Bill Furguson who is the men's head coach at USC. (and BTW Cookie Stevens coaches for USC and SCVC) Falyn, Piper and Paige all play for SCVC and practice at USC. Falyn has stated she'll play for USC and Haley in 2010. Obradovich is a Trojan alum and they (Piper and Paige) want the scholarship to USC too. The emperor has no cloths... |

CNBC -- What a ridiculous post. Of course there is a relationship between USC coaches and SCVC. Just like there is a relationship between LBSU coaches and Cal.
jrs. and similar relationships between colleges and many, many clubs.
The idea that Obradovich is trying to obtain scholarships for his daughters to 'SC is ludicrous. First, colleges are severly limited in the number of scholarships they can give out. An elite program like 'SC is only going to give scholarships to the kids that will help them win an NCAA championship. They are not going to be influenced by whether the kid played for a certain club or not. Second, Steve Obradovich might be an over-the-top parent, but he's also a very succesful businessman. He doesn't need any financial help to send his kids to college. And naming kids like you did in your post is just plain bad.

How rich, that's a defense????????????? Too funny

Well, what I was defending was the unsubstantiated claim by CNBC that his kids play for a particular club because they are looking to get a scholarship to
'SC, not any other accusations made in this thread about his behavior at tournaments.
Pointing out a overzeleous parent's behavior is one thing, insinuating there is some insider deal between a college and a club and then using the names of the kids, as CNBC did, is another. I don't have anything to do with any of the folks involved in this, but I know enough to know that CNBC doesn't know what he/she is talking about. |
