On Saturday at the Lone Star tournament, I got there early in the afternoon before my daughter started playing and went to watch the older girls in the
open. Those kids are so good!
But I noticed one dad (I assume) yelling at the refs on two courts -- SCVC was playing on both -- making such a scene that he had to be warned by both refs he
was about to be kicked out. He acted like he knew more about volleyball than anyone else.
Is this the kind of dad I will become when my daughter is older? Anyone know who this kook was?

Yeah that's him. He had this crazed look in his eye. He was a nut but I didn't want to stop watching him to see what he would do next.

Steve was a pro beach player way back in the day. We was like that as a player and like that as a coach and father. A few years ago we were playing his
daughters team and he was yelling at the players and dropping f bombs like crazy. After the match we talked to one of the players and said how hard is it to
deal with him on the bench. It was his daughter and she just smiled and said trying living with him...

First of all welcome! You stay at this long enough and you will see all kinds of freaks. Its quite entertaining, actually. As far as the "crazed
look" condition being contagious, nothing really to worry about. You'll feel it start to creap in after a couple years but you have the ability to
keep it in check, just check yourself in the mirror occasionally. Better yet, ask a "non-crazed" team parent to look in your eyes and give you an
honest assessment. I suggest throwing back a shot with a beer chaser just like Hilary to ward off the demons before those tense matches.

Obie was an okay beach player....as I recall Zach Barnes & Monroe Clark took him out early in the "Classic" back in '90 (Picture to
the left :-)

There were some "issues" with him at Junior Nationals in the past (maybe Salt Lake in 2005?) when he was coaching at Roxy Beach. His verbal abuse of
the officials during and/or after a specific match even earned him a not-so-honorable mention from JTawa in a story or message board posting.
