Summer Camp Emails

So, if its inappropriate, I apologize. My dd has been receiving emails in regards to various vball camps over the summer. They are not address directly to her and have no attached letters. Just a bit of information regarding the camp and then the camp brochure pdf. She has been playng vball for several years now and this is the first time she has received emails such as these. My question is: do colleges usually send this out from a mass mailing list (much like the junk mail we receive) to anyone and everyone or do they send these out to those girls who they've seen and see some possible potential or could it be because she's past a certain age? Any clues on this? Thanks so much for your help.

Camps are a good way to see a player of interest both on and off the court without violating recruiting guidelines. They can evaluate her vb skills, interaction with others, independence and maturity. They are also a huge revenue stream for college programs. An appropriate question the college program CAN answer for you is about the camp goals and personnel assignments. Are the coaches college players? Do they hire outside coaches? What is the camper/coach ratio? Will your daughter get good measurable feedback? Does the college coaching staff personally teach training sessions? Most programs will respond to your email queries if you keep them away from anything that might jeopardize the recruiting process so try not to drift towards the "my daughter is the * on the ** team" Best luck on finding a good fit.

I'm assuming that they got her name from various sources such as University Athlete, Rich Kern and rosters from qualifiers. The invites from schools that were actively recruiting her, and had seen her play, were usually sent via snail mail with a note from the coach. If your daughter receives an e-mail invite to a school where she is really interested in, then you might consider sending her so they can get a look at her. My daughter also has been getting random e-mail invites to join teams for playing internationally and to join a team for tournament in Hawaii. All of these come with a hefty pricetag. No thanks!

If the college interests you or her, pursue further information. Check out the school and see if in fact that is one of the places your dd would like to end up. The e mails or letters that you should consider more than others is when a specific college asks your dd to attend as a recruit invitee. With this type of e mail or letter, the college is making you and your daughter aware that they are seriously considering her in their future. The problem comes, when you receive so many of these that it is difficult to decide which to attend. A good problem to have lol but still a problem. You don't want to rule anyone out and you don't want to offend any program that has taken your daughter to this point. Take your time and decide what is best for you financially and your daughter's overall camp experience.
