What a great tournament! Wave was very dominate all weekend long. They had a scare from our girls at Central Cal winning 15-13 game 3 in a very tough match.
Three teams received very well deserved open bids. 951, Long Beach and Vision!
I would call it a coin flip between the top 10 teams, with the exception of Wave, they all took turns beating each other. Here is the top 10 finishing order: 1st Wave 2nd 951 3rd Central Cal 4th Long Beach 5th Cal Jrs 6th Vision 7th City Beach 7th Cincinnati 9th Sunshine 10th Santa Barbara |

Purple is right, what a great tournament....6 teams (Cal Jrs, Central Cal, Club Cinci, Laguna, Sunshine and Wave) came into the tourny with Open bids, deepest
of any Qualifier or JDVA event in the country....three others, as Purple mentioned, picked up bids in hard fought matches through out a grueling 3 days.
Wave with outstanding team ball control and hard finishers (from every hitting position) was the strongest team...., They have won 2 qualifiers (Spokane and here) making a strong claim for a very high seed a JO's...Central Cal with excellent team work and strong digging and Cal Jrs with flying outsides and smart libero, also would have recieved bids at 2 qualifiers they entered. (CC here and Denver, Cal Jr's here and Spokane)...Sunshine also would be in that category (Indy and Spokane) 951 fought hard for their bid and the very deep, talented, LB Mizuno team did the same....they provided great action and skill......Vision played hard all tourny long...these 3 teams all deserve congratulations and will be stong competitors at the JO's!! Getting a JO's OPEN bid is no easy task and was the goal here. Club Cincinnati played well all weekend.....they are a very talented athletic team with a high spirit and a fun bunch of parents..it was good to have you in Southern Cal and we look forward to seeing you in Dallas...best of luck the rest of your season. There are some teams still fighting for a bid and with Reno on the horizon, there is more oppurtunity...keep working! There is no break for the So Cal teams as this coming weekend they have a mandatory......get some rest teams....thanks again for a great showcase of talent this weekend. |

Best 16's match I have seen in years | ||

Those folks that were still at the ASC on Sat night for game one of the top eight had quite a show. You could feel the thunder rumble and by the end of game
one the courtside crowd was 3 deep.Wave and Central Cal squared off for game one of Sunday's pool play and both teams showed up to compete and brought
their A game. Ball mashing kills, brick wall blocks, amazing digs, perfect tips and jaw-dropping pursuits kept the teams trading point for point. It was one of
those match-ups that brought out the heart of a champion in both teams, the kind of intensity that these girls dream about. At the end, Wave won the
tie-breaker 15-13 and went on to win the pool and the gold. The sportsmanship of both teams was something that parents dream about. I almost wish the pool had
tied so we could see one more game to 25 and I think the girls felt the same. I hope to see these two fine teams square off again this season. Congratulations
to Wave on their victory and 1st place finish.

From what I was told by the person involved Saturday night... Very close friend of mine that some comments made by a certain parent was really uncalled for and
have NO place in these young people's sport or any other.

Big Dig... I don't know what comment was made or if a comment was really made, but I was talking to a Club Cinci parent and they were complimentary on how
good the Mizuno team played and that it was a very good match. I feel that Club Cinci and Mizuno have outstanding players and should do very well at JO's.

8one....I agree, I spoke to several parents and a couple of players and all were complimentary about the level of play out here, especially with the defense
played by the teams...

I was told ,Team Cinci was outstanding, girls play well and should do well in Dallas. Nothing any player or coaches said that was Offensive. Comments made by a
parent (under the influence of alcohol or not) have no place in our sport. This was verified by two African American female coaches in the stand directly
behind this parent as well as my friend. I was told that those comments were made loudly at least three of four times, so obviously this particular parents
wanted those comments to be heard. Very Sad. To the credit of Cinci parents, one apologized for that one parent's ignorance.
