Junior Olympic At-Large Berths |
Lead | |

With Lonestar only giving one bid to Woodland Stars in 15 Open and only 2 bids awarded at the So Cal Qualifier for 14 Open, who are some teams who have a
chance of getting these at large berths for JO's?

Current at-Large Bid situation | ||
|
With the trickle down going to 6 and a lot of teams absent from qualifiers due to JVDA there will be some extra at-Large bids this year.
Current At large Bids 14Open: 2 15Open: 3 16Open: 1 17Open: 2 18Open: 1 Northern Lights and Far Western will both have a lot of qualified teams in both tournaments, this could open up even more at Large Bids. |

Considering the fact that it's USA's tournament and they call it Junior Olympics (see the website)...I think it's a fine use of the term. Problem?

Top 10 finishers at qualifiers...

Any team finishing 4th or 5th in a qualifier that hasn't qualified elsewhere will have a legitimate chance to be an at-large selection.

This issue is brought up every year. From what Eye have seen, there is no weight given to "tougher" qualifeyers. Determining "tough" is
not an issue that can be quantifeyed.
The three top (maybe only) determining factors are: 1). Average qualifeyer finish 2). Record vs top 1/3 of Open applicants 3). Wins against the field of teams already qualifeyed in Open Go to two Q's, finish 4th and 8th and you average out at 6th. Go to three, finish 4th, 4th and 16th and you end up averaging 8th. A 4th place finish at a single Q averages out as a 4th place finish. Believe me when Eye tell you Eye did not figure this out beye meyeself. It is what it is and the above descreyebed creyeteria is the way it was in 2005. Eye doubt there has been much in the way of modification to this process since then. It is fair and well thought out. |
