Disagree with Ukie...while it is a team, depending on the age group and the talent of the players in question, their teammates may simply be afraid to question the problem players' actions. We shouldn't assume that these girls even know how to put pressure on each other properly (could easily deteriorate to name-calling, shunning, cliquey, negative behavior). While they need to learn to come together as a team and regulate themselves...running everyone to death won't get you there quickly and will waste the little time left you have to prepare for Regionals.

As for making the two of them run...it will no doubt show them you are in charge, but I doubt it will gain you anymore respect. I would pull them aside and give them an ultimatum....the moment they act up in practice....they are getting kicked out. If they get kicked out of 2 practices, they aren't playing in Regionals, period...end of discussion. Let them know that you are telling your parents the same thing. I wouldn't ask the parents for help....just let them know that this is your plan and that they need to be aware of it so they are not surprised their daughters aren't playing at Regionals. Might be a good idea to run this by your club director too.

I'd also say that you should spend your next practice having others play their positions to "prepare" for that possible outcome (have them shag, play backrow only, etc.). Finally, if necessary, have a team meeting with all or your players...raise the issue and moderate a discussion. This can be very challenging, but that's why we are paid the big bucks, right ;-) I have found that addressing the "pink elephant in the room" directly usually produces the best results.

One final point, you have to be unequivocally steadfast in whatever approach you take. Bees, dogs, and teenage girls can smell fear :-) ExpertIdiot's implication that the coaches may have created this situation in the first place certainly has merit (though I may have said it a little differently ;-) Don't necessarily pin this entirely on the girls...use this as a lesson-learned and re-evaluate how you establish your coaching philosophy with the girls and how evenly you administer discipline throughout the year.
