I know Saturday night you could not get updates from AES on 16 or 15 Club to see how brackets were going to work out until 11pm or so. Most of the teams had
finished in the morning wave. I never really had a problem at Reliant but away from Reliant was not good. Also under SUTP you can easily see the whole
tournament - pools, reffing assignments etc - you can access the grid. In AES you constantly have to skip from pool to pool and bracket to bracket. Awful time
consuming to find out who you might play in the next round when planning out a day or so in advance.

Expectations? Simple a system consistent with SUPT. OR "Stable" "Updated" "Performing" and "Timely" Sorry but I did find this kind of funny. I realize objectives can often take a back seat to passion but I think you meant "Stable" "Updated" "Timely" and "Performing." I am in agreement with most here about SUTP over AES. AES seems to have big server load issues when larger events are at hand. Why this is a problem 1+ years into things is only a question their IT people can answer.....or perhaps not *L*. To the notion that a smaller event not having enough people to enter results so they went to paper....not likely. I think the AES system can be easily handled with a single individual for up to about 300 (perhaps more?) teams. Not every 'glitch' can necessarily be attributable to AES. From what I know, AES provides the software and the knowledge base to run the system. The hardware (computers, cables, router, etc...) is provided by the host of the event as well as set up. That means they likely rent the equipment and with rented equipment comes the occasional failure. What does a non-IT person do when there is IT equipment failure? I can't speak to what happened in the instance mentioned here, but I wouldn't be willing to toss AES under the bus without actually knowing the series of events that lead to going back to paper. SUTP, in my opinion does have a superior product. Their system seems to update in realtime as opposed to the batch update system AES uses. There is definately a more seamless way to go about things than AES does but it seems their application designers don't think the same way so it's largely a matter of opinion. That said, the overwhelming opinion seems to state that they may need to change their way of thinking.

canvbc wrote: The 5 hour delays Saturday were bad but for me the format is the biggest "glitch." Not being able to view the grid and all of the pools on a
single page is a pain for those of us who have been viewing paper formats for years. SUTP (and midwest) are much closer to the best of both worlds. With AES
you basically have to print out the PDF schedule if you want to follow along without jumping all over the place and trying to remember what you just looked at
25 clicks ago. Are we "entitled" to that? With the rising cost of entries and all of the extras that go with it, I would say absolutely. If you are
going to purchase a program with the money the participants and their families are paying, it should be the best possible bang for our buck!

...AES is now down to #3 in my favorite VB scheduling systems. Just visited the FAR WEST site and am really impressed by the look of that system...anyone know
what they use? SUPT remains #1!

It used to be D4 Sports, but apparently D4 has been acquired by ClubSpaces. The only info they have about their tournament scheduling software (that I can
find) is at:
http://www.clubspaces.com/op/features in the right column towards the bottom. |

....accessing the results for Northern Lights on SUPT. Notice the program name has changed (?) to REAL TIME RESULTS, which indeed they are, but are they
taking a "shot" at their competition AES with the name change? They are fast though and the name well-deserved, I'm thinking they're posting
some results before they actually happen!

Maybe they'll get good enough where they can post results so far in advance that we won't have to actually play the matches...think of the time and money saved! |
