please define generally...and does the club run the qualifier or another business?? also did they market it as free entry ever?? or do we just assume that it
would or should be that way from year to year.

No JVDA affect on team participation | ||
|
For those trying to make a connection with JVDA participation and admission fees being charged at the Northern Lights Qualifier, there is no connection. There
were 647 teams participating last year and 656 signed up for this year. Attendance will actually be higher this year.

Hawkeye, do you think that qualifier money might have helped pay for that beautiful facility? I wish our club hosted a qualifier. Maybe we would get a state of
the art facility, or maybe the club owners could put an addition on their house and a pool, indoor of course.

hosting a qualifier | ||

torami--neither is anyone else....its 15.00 for the entire weekend. If you are spending the money to attend the event than and extra 15.00/person isnt going
to break the bank. Like I said unless there was some mention that it would be free who are we to assume that it is or should be?
Ukie-your about 15 years too late....its easy to persecute them now that the event is a success. they are the ones who took the risk intially and are reaping the benefits now. nothing is preventing your club from renting the convention center and running a tournament there. Will you? Probably not. Be original and come up with your own idea and maybe you can get yourself a fabulous facility and successful event dont envy those that are doing what you wish you were.

I think I'm over it | ||
|
As a new volleyball parent from the Midwest I was initially shocked when I found out I was going to have to pay to watch my daughter play.
5 years of club soccer around the country (indoor and outdoor) and entrance fees were never charged. Field rentals, refs salaries and profits ( tournaments for any sport are always going to be considered fund raisers for the hosting club) were payed for out of team entrance fees. It has taken a few months but I have come to accept that volleyball uses a different structure. Reading the posts on this board have helped with that as it seems like it is either the same everywhere or will be very soon. As far as the NLQ goes they should have had that info posted ahead of time but i doubt if it really would have changed any teams decisions. Accountability is the best way to keep overall pricing competitive and it should be demanded by the consumers. ( the club my daughter plays for gave us a complete financial breakdown prior to registration ) Anyway I'm over it.

I think that, if it has always been free in the past, it is reasonable to expect that to continue, absent any timely notification from the organizers. Plus, to
the best of my knowledge (reading other money related threads), each and every NQ has been free up until this decision by Northern Lights. So it's not just
the $33 bucks it will cost a couple who is there watching their daughter, its "the principle of the thing" (you know, that stuff that starts wars),
and also the precedent. If it is true that NL is the first NQ to charge admission, it will certainly not be the last. All these things add up, and eventually
many of us will have to say "enough". Our family is close to that. It looks like my step-daughter's team will be playing National in Dallas, and
it is possible our family will opt out rather than spend the extra money for us to watch imbalanced competition, for days, before the more competitive matchups
occur.

Big South charged | ||
|
Someone mentioned that the Big South Qualifier charged $15 this year. Maybe not coincidentally, Northern Lights had teams there. I would expect this to
become the trend. With these indoor convention centers, it is easy enough to have a couple of entrances set up for charging admission. When I typically pay
$10-$15 for 3-4 games of a weekend tournament in 6th grade travel basketball or softball, $15 to watch three days of some of the best youth volleyball in the
country sounds like a deal.

......not cold or lonely just tired of the complaining when others can do the same thing. If you choose not to do it so be it but dont be grudge those who are
entrepreneurs take risk and benefit because of it.
