True it is a long way (5+ hour drive) to get to play one less match Friday but it will allow them to rest more before the matches on Saturday which isn't a
bad thing for most teams. However seeing that your team has a bid already it would of been nice to get more playing time on the courts.
Good luck to your team this weekend. |

Usually in a three team pool, you will play 3 games to 25.

t.r. is right. You typically play three to 25 regardless of the outcome of the first two games, so you are guaranteed six games for the day. Unclear whether
that's how SCVA is doing it.

Well, that would certainly help distribute some playing time. It let's you go all out both of the first two games and still get all the girls in the match.
I think I like it. If our coach is confident after a first game, she will typically use a lot of substitution, knowing she can go with the starters again if a
game three is needed. With a third game happening regardless, she can eliminate risk and still distribute the playing time, which is of course a big deal to
the girls.
Doesn't say so anywhere, but I hope that is what they are doing. |

Wouldn't it be more equal to have it best out of 5 for the pool of threes.
For a pool of 4 the minimum number of games is 6 and the max is 9. For a pool of 3 with 3 games of 25 then number of games is always 6 however if you already won 2 in the match then the third is more of a scrimmage to get some playing time for some of the girls so the number of games that really matter might be only 4 for some teams. If you played best out of 5 then the minimum number of games is 6 with a max of 10. One issue I guess could be that against two equal teams that it could go to 5 meaning 5 tough games whereas in a 3 game match it would be only 3. Guess in the end there is no perfect solution so it is six of one or half a dozen of the other... |

I believe that when a pool has three teams and the format is for each team to play two matches of 3 games to 25, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are determined by
total number of games won.
Therefore, beating a team 2 out of 3 games gives you 2 wins and 1 loss. There exist a good amount of incentive to sweep an opponent 3-0! |

Oh, and I'm told by one of our coaches that the SoCal format for 3 team pools is just the 'normal' best two of three.

National for #1 and American for #2 in all divisions except 12's, where the #2 may get a reallocation bid.
