OVR Bid Tourney - Pick the Winners! |
Lead | |
|
This weekend is the Ohio Valley Region Bid Tourney. Let's pick the teams who will get the bids to Nationals. 5 teams each in the 18's, 17's,
16's, 15's, 14's, 13's and the 12's have 4. Should be interesting!

In 14-18's OVR has 1 National & 4 American Bids (according to USAV Allocation).
So every team entered will get a bid?! And we thought the JVDA was strong in the GLR! Am I missing something here? (A confused TH Edit: Wait--Are you saying that there are 5 bids available? If so, how many teams are entered in each age group? Website?

ya that doesn't seem right for there to be 5 bids for each age group, esp since @ the natl qualifiers there are only 2 bids in club for each age group....
she probably means 1 for each, 5 total

The OVR is a very large region so we receive 1 National and 4 American Bids per age with the exception of I believe 12's which receive less. It looks like
between 20 and 24 teams have registered in each age group.

I am not going to get into the debate on whether OVR deserves all the bids that we get. (We do have over 16,000 registered Juniors this year) However, I will
tell you that our bid tournament is a very competitive event. In 18's alone, there are teams that have been playing Open qualifiers who will now square up
with teams that have been playing club in the qualifiers.
There are some that believe it is easier to qualify at a qualifier in the club division, that to finish in the top 5 at the OVR bid tournament. Not sure I totally believe that. For example, our 16-1 team won the NEQ this past weekend. They would be seeded 8th or 9th in the OVR Bid tournament. Here are my predictions for the winners of the National Bid 18's ACE (who I also believe deserves an at-large Open bid) 17's Cincy Classics 17 Red 16's Ohio Elite 15's Team Atlantis 14's TVC 14-1 13's m.131 12's CVC |

OVR Bids | ||
|
USA volleyball allocates bids by the number of registered juniors in the region. The OVR has been in the top 2 for several years, giving them the maximum
number of bids (1 National and 4 American) for most age groups. Also, the region has received reallocation bids in several age groups over the last couple of
years which would give the OVR 6 bids in some age groups.

Buckeyevb, Boy, I wouldn't want to play in your club. With the lack of respect you show one of your own teams (16-1) by dissing them here on a public forum. Perhaps that team got off to a slow start because it had basketball players on it, or they finally started working together, or the coaches finally figured out the best line up. Your implication that they were lucky to win the NEQ's this weekend but would probably not get a bid through the OVR based on their seed from their earlier performances is disrespectful to the players. Once again, I certainly wouldn't want to play in your club. |

I didn't get that impression... | ||

I didn't get the impression that buckeyevb was insulting any team or club. I think he was trying to make the point that the OVR Bid Tourney is a
competitive one...not easy to secure a bid at this Regional Bid Tournament...nor is it easy to secure a bid at a National qualifier.

luvvballalot- you have got to be kidding!
Excuse me, but did I say they would not have gotten a bid at the OVR bid tournament? No, I was simply making the point that going into the tournament they would be ranked 8th or 9th. That is not my estimation of where they would end up but the actual seeding place they would be based on the OVR's point system. Good Lord. You don't know me if you think I am not the biggest supporter of my teams. And guess what . . It does take a little bit of luck to win a bid at a qualifier. Considering we enter an average of 2 qualifiers per year per national team, which averages out to about 24 entries per year. Over the past 15 years, we have had 4 teams win a bid at a qualifier, the other 60 or so bids we have received have been from our region's bid tournament. If you that it is negative to think it takes a bit of luck to win a qualifier-you might luvvballalot, but you do not knowvballalot!. Please, do not read negativity where none was intended. Most coaches and players know just how tough it is to get a bid in our region . . .even in a year where Z, Renaissance Pittsburgh, Premier and Dayton Juniors are not playing. Our 16-1 team is absolutely ecstatic about winning the bid in Baltimore and equally thrilled they do not have to play for one this weekend. Well. I gotta go now to meet the 16-1 girls at practice to present them with their homemade cookie cake, punch and a yellow roses for Texas. Contrary to what you might think, I would say the majority of kids in our program think I am a pretty positive person. Peace. Michelle Hills TVC |
