I'm sure Boris has some great observations of the season in his always entertaining blog, but I had to get the thread going again here on prep.
Did anyone else notice the guy sitting right behind Randy Jackson tonight? It was hard to miss his very bright red pants - but when the focus shifted, I
noticed he was also wearing a navy blue Mizuno volleyball shirt. Couldn't help but wonder if any of the Cali posters recognized him. What was up with
those red pants?

If someone tivo'd Idol last night, maybe they can do a screen capture and post it to the board. It'd be interesting to find out how long it took
before the person was identified. Sort of our own 6 degrees of separation.

I thought red pants was a Florida panhandle thing! "Guff Breeze", Pensacola Beach, and places like that.
I had it recorded, but erased it after we watched it. It's our family night 'thing' to start watching the recording a half hour after the show starts, so we can skip the commercials but still finish by the kid's bedtime. |

Say goodbye to David Hernandez... I wasn't a big fan anyway... I'm rooting for the guy from Texas A&M (Jason Castro) and the girl who sang and
played the piano this week (Brooke White) but I like some of the others too!
There is a clip on the front page of http://www.americanidol.com/ "today's featured Video" that shows the Mizuno guy mentioned above. I think the red pants are more than likely warm-up type or track pants. He has very little hair, if any and he looks like he is with the woman in the red t-shirt. WHO IS THIS MYSTERY MIZUNO MAN? Take a look America! |

I figure the guy was there to recruit Ramiele Malubay as a libero. I was watching Carly Smithson and it does occur to me that there aren't that many
junior volleyball players with prominent tatoos. That's probably a good thing, but it seems like female college basketball players do the tatoo thing.
Probably one of these days as tatoos continue to get more mainstream we'll see a junior team called Club Maori Warrior or something like that and people
can argue touches by the color of ink on the ball.

I noticed the night of the elimination show that Mizuno Man was sitting next to the same woman. They kept showing them when Kristy Cook was onstage, and the woman's t-shirt had something about Kristy on it - so I'm thinking he may be Kristy's Dad. Kristy is from Selma, Oregon, so that means Tawa must know who he is & he's just not telling. Boris - was Kristy a volleyball player? Maybe there's a real volleyball connection to Idol this year. Closest we ever got before was the gal who played basketball for Boston College. I like Brooke, too - I'm a Carly Simon fan from way back when - she reminds me a lot of her. Plus, she just seems really sweet . Jason Castro - I like him too, but was there EVER someone that looked LESS like an aggie than him? Great plug for diversity in college station. They even showed some of his A&M classmates in the audience this past week - guess they went out to LA for spring break. I keep waiting for a "howdy" or a "gig 'em" after a song- he could have the current and "former students" voting like crazy. His version of "hallelujah" was so beautiful. SettaPapa thinks the wild 'n crazy Amanda looks like a character from the Lion King - I think her janis type delivery will get old before the competition's over. Boris' blog is a great read - I highly recommend a visit - his vball observations & musings are just as entertaining as the Idol blog. |

CBrown - that little David is awfully gosh-darned cute - such a sweet performer. I gotta say though, his dimples have some major competition from the
Austrailian dude and my Aggie w/the dreds - who is really growing on me, by the way.
I was surprised to see Rocker gal go - and geez, poor little Kristy has been in the bottom group every week now, hasn't she? I'm still wondering if she played VB. Huge surprise for tattoo gal to be there - although I have to admit, her accent is wearing thin on me - I halfway think she's accentuating it when she talks. I see Brooke getting stronger every week - I loved her wavy hair, but the straight look was surprisingly nice. I didn't see Mizuno Mystery Man this week 
Glad to see Kelli playing up her voice and not her "enhancements" on the results show. |

The top three (used to be four but Brooke White dropped) currently are:
David Cook Michael Johns David Archuleta Next group: Brooke White (not a good night, but strong in the past) Jason Castro (ditto, but not quite as strong in the past) Carly Smithson Syesha Mercado My bottom three continue to be: Kristy Lee Cook (up from last, but when you average a string of zeros with a 5 [out of 10], you still get a very low number) Ramiele Malubay Chikezie I think Chikezie should go, but I have not understood any of the bottom three still sticking around. David Hernandez was far better than any of those three. I think David Cook has had three of the top four performances (Hello, Eleanor Rigby and last night) with Brooke White's You're So Vain being the other one. I rather liked David Archuleta's performance last night even though I had never heard the song before. |

I've tried really hard to not like David Cook, because I just don't like the way he comes across personality wise. He really showed something last
night, though, putting together a take on the Michael Jackson song that is far superior to the original. Similar to the way Blake did a few times last year
with his beat boxing approach. He got my vote.
Every time I see Kristy Lee, the Billy Joel song comes to mind... the amazing thing last night is that she clearly let one of the show consultants 'help' with her look and it just didn't work for her. She does much better following her own fashion sense. She is probably the weakest talent wise, but will make it through. Her song choice was, for me, a blatant focus on votes, but that is the bottom line for them, right? |

Well, six of my top seven made it to the Top Six, so I am fairly happy. I would gladly trade Michael Johns for Syesha Mercado at this point, but, oh well,
that's how it goes.
I think it is, hands down, David Cook's to lose at this point. Brooke White has been struggling of late [wow, its been a long time since "You're so vain"], Jason Castro has no range to speak of [although I loved "Somewhere over the rainbow], Syesha Mercado does not seem to do well except on "big volume" songs. Carly Smithson is doing OK and David Archuleta is good but somehow grates on my nerves at times. I think David Cook has been the most consistent and is the only one that I would gladly go out a buy an album from at this point. That is something I have never said about anyone on American Idol before. I am very glad that Kristi Lee Cook is (finally) gone. That Michael Johns, even with his weird hand-waving, left before her is the travesty of the season, but I only had him at four or five by now anyway. I must admit that I was sitting there thinking "What weird universe are we in that the two Cooks are in the same group?" but then Ryan moved David and the world was brought back into alignment. So, my current rankings:

David Cook is so arrogant. I really can't stand him. He acts if he is original but every song, except Mariah night, he has performed has been done by
someone else. He is original. Unless you consider typing on google and finding different versions Original. Everytime a judge gives him a bad review he gets
mad or pouts. I truly can't stand watching him.
