I know seeding is based a lot on record...however, that shouldn't be why someone is ranked higher than someone else...

I beleive they will do well in the early part of the tourney. I just don't think they are battle tested enough. However, I hope they prove me wrong and do
extremely well in the tourney.
Good luck to all!

16s seeding for crossroads
|
Somebody please explain how they get this kind of seeding? They must have gone only by won/loss record. Stars Blue has a better record than Stars Gold, but the competition they've faced hasn't been as tough, either. Stars Gold has been consistently playing Open level teams. Oh, Wise Volleyball People please help me figure this out. I guess it's not that big of a deal, but I wonder what it will mean for either team in the future pools over the weekend. Can it make a big difference or not? Just win, right? |

It is not that big of a deal in the first pool at all. You will cruise in the first and second rounds easily. It is when you have to be crossed with someone to
stay in gold or your first round in the gold bracket might not be what it should be if the seedings were correct. there has to be some way of determining seeds
better than just win/loss record.
Oh well good luck. |

How the seeds grow | ||||||||
|
It is based on record not level of competition from what has happened this year and in years past. Most regions dont have rankings this early so they go by
record.

Seedings | ||||||||

I don't know how a national qualifier could seed any other way but by record. So many teams from across the country. I don't think they could know
what teams are stronger than other teams. Not like in a local tournament. Is there no way of some kind of grading system, based on who you have played and
what their "grade" is? I'm not sure how it would work, just a thought.

What about the Regions?
|
Wouldn't the regions be able to help identify who is playing in a higher division (playing up)? They should have all of the results on hand.
IMO they should have an interest in getting the teams from their Region the best seed possible. Crossroads has a 15-2 team that is seeded over a 15-1 team. The 15-1 team is playing in a harder division. Which accounts for their record. |

Seedings | ||||||||

I may be way off base here, but I thought that the individual regions submitted lists to the national qualifier committee about how to rank their own teams.
Now it is incredibly random how the nats then sort those various regions together, but rankings within a particular region should be pretty clean.
Has anybody else heard that to be true or did I dream that up? |

Could some teams fail to submit their results causing them to be seeded lower? Just a thought.
Besides, winning solves all seeding injustices.

Region seeds | ||||||||

Well what happens if a team is seeded higher in league but never played the teams another team played. For instance my team has a better record than a team
seeded ahead of us. We have one loss to a 17s team but 2 other losses to 18s teams. They did not match up with the teams we played so how do you seed that.

Nightmare or Crazy? | ||||||||
|
So I totally agree that the current world does not use any system such as I described. Indeed, someone pointed out that CC posted a description of their
seeding process and it has NO mention of regions supplying rankings.
I was 100% wrong. But just to say that I was not necessarily crazy. Here is a page from the USA Volleyball 2006 archives describing regional rankings http://www.usavolleyball.org/Juniors/06_regional_ranking.asp The description says (Highly redacted. You can go to the page if you want to read the actual words) ... the Regional rankings as reported each month for the top 10% of each region for girl's 13's through 18's age divisions... The purpose for
posting these monthly rankings is to enhance the ability for major events to place regional teams in their correct ranking order when seeding the entire event.

you decide??? Despite their win/loss record, I still think they are one of the heavy favorites.

Actually that is listed as Stars Blue record. I don't think it was intentional, but these types of mistakes could have an impact on the "initial"
seeding. The submitted results are "supposed" to be cross referenced to verify they are accurate.

Do the club directors not look to make sure their club's info is correct? Would they not bring any indiscretions to the attention of the tournament
directors?
|

Usually the club director or an admin is the one that submits the information. I'm not suggesting they would intentionally submit incorrect data but it can
happen. Since the information is usually submitted to the director by the teams coach or statistician it may not always be verified before being submitted to
the event organizer.
My point is there are many things to take in to account as to why a team could be seeded higher than they deserve. |
|||||||||
dawgnit |

I realize the club directors are the ones who submit the information, but do "other hands" then take it and imput it, or does it go directly from the
club director into the system? How does a mistake like the one above happen?
