i just noticed that another stanford commitment was announced by JT. something must have changed/relaxed at stanford regarding their recruiting, as i recall in previous years that stanford recruits were not announcable until well into the summer after their junior year. i know this frustrated the coaches and they prob lost out on a few great recruits along the way. can anyone with knowledge comment on this?

Stanford usually doesnt announce its recruits until they are accepted into school. It can be a difficult process for such a highly regarded school to get kids
in so I think it allows both the university and the athlete to save face if they arent accepted. The admissions process begins after ACT scores are out (I
believe) which puts the earliest commitment sometime in the early summer following junior year or later.

Early announcements you see from Stanford, or any DI or DII school, are from the player and parents. Schools cannot announce any verbal commitments.
Schools cannot make an announcement of a player signing until an NLI (assuming the school uses the NLI) or the schools's own offer of financial aid is signed. So any player can announce they are committed (like that football player about 2 months ago) whenever they want. |

i'm apparently not communicating. i am aware of the fact that a school cannot announce that a recruit is coming to their institution until the athlete has
signed a NLI. verbal commitments are announced by the player/family.
NN describes stanford's policy as i understood it to be in the past. stanford could not offer an athlete until the admissions dept had actually accepted the recruit--typically in june or july after junior year. i know that was a source of frustration to the stanford staff. i believe that at least one '09 commit--spelman--has already announced and i'm wondering if the stanford athletic dept. was able to get an early read (perhaps similar to the "likely letter" used by many ivy league schools) or some other form of relaxation of the timing impediment. or maybe the kids are announcing prior to actually being offered by stanford? or maybe spelman is '08? anyone know? chris brown, you out there? |

they started going on about the bad calls the officials made.... |
