AVA of Texas Prayers |

I am saddened to report that there has been yet another tragedy within the Houston area volleyball community. Ray Garza, the
husband of Katy Garza (formerly Katy Jamison from UT) the Co-Director for AVA of Texas & Head Coach of their 17 Asics team, was in a tragic motorcycle
accident today. Details are sketchy but he is currently stable but non-responsive & in very critical condition.
Please send your prayers out to Ray, Katy and their 4 young children. I will post more details as I get them.

We are all praying for Ray and for Katy. If it is prayers he needs, the huge number of students gathered outside Alvin HS at 6:30 this morning to pray for him
will go a long way.
Ray is also a long-time favorite teacher and golf coach at Alvin High School. He is much loved at this school and in this community.

Oh my. I am so very, very sad. My heart goes out to Katy and her family and my hope is that Ray fights as hard as he can for his lovely wife and children who
need him.

Prayers sent. Even though I do not not Katy and Ray personally, have respected her abilities for many years and was a friend of her brother Chris while at
A&M. Will be thinking of them, the family and the Alvin community.

I received this email from Jerry Linch
Many of you have asked what can be done for Katy and her family. Here are some things that she needs: 1. PRAYER!! Ray has been lifted up in prayer by hundreds of people already. The evidence of those prayers was seen tonight just by the fact that he is alive and fighting. Specifically, Katy asked for guidance in making a decision regarding Ray's foot. She may be required to give permission for the amputation, and she yearns to make the right decision and have peace about it. Also, it is unknown just what damage Ray has to his brain. He is bleeding, and we need to pray that there is minimal swelling and no permanent damage. We can also pray for guidance for his team of physicians who are orchestrating his recovery. And certainly keep Katy and her family in your prayers...she will need strength when she explains things to her children, and needs rest to keep herself strong during this trying time. 2. GIFT CARDS: Katy will be making many trips to the medical center, and will have the expense of gas, parking and food. Maybe the team moms could collect any donations, and get a Visa gift card (or something similar) that Katy could use for gas, parking, food, or anything else she may need. The cards may be easier to handle than cash, but certainly do whatever you feel led to do. If anyone has any ideas, please let us know. Please contact Donna Merritt once the donations are collected and she will make sure they are delivered to Katy, donna.merritt@avatexas.com. 3. FOOD: Katy mentioned before we left tonight that it might help if food were delivered to her house. Her mom is watching her 4 children (her mom lives across the street from her...what a blessing!), and might appreciate food brought to her. You can always get things like restaurant gift cards also...they would be convenient to use. One thing that we want to try to avoid is for them to get tons of food this 1st week, and not be able to use it all. If anyone would like to coordinate taking food to Katy's house, please let us know (maybe people could sign up for certain days, and spread it out over several weeks). If there are any other changes, we will try to keep you posted as often as we can. There will be updates on the website, so please look to that for any information. The outpouring of support and prayer has been amazing. We know Katy feels very loved, and mentioned that Ray would be amazed at how much he is loved and cared for. We are proud to be part of this wonderful organization...it truly speaks volumes about the character of the people involved, and the dedication and love everyone has for each other. Thanks, Jerry and Kathy Linch

Thank you from AVA | ||

Thank you Rob and everyone else for the thoughts and prayers for Ray and the Garza Family. Katy is a very strong woman and is handling things as well, if not
better than can be expected. Check avatexas.com for any updates from Jerry. I'll pass on everyone's thoughts and well wishes to Katy when I see her
later today.
