Interesting article and nice to see a Heart of America team recognized. Watched the match and it was exciting with some "wild" point swings, especially for the Open Division.
A little confused by comment from the coach at the end of the article..
"They showed what they are capable of," said Ribeiro. "They get upset and frustrated because they think they are not recognized in our area, but we told them, 'We know what you are capable of.' This tournament they showed everyone how good they are."
Extreme is ranked #2 in the region behind Invasion which is a team they played close, with maybe the exception being this year's Power League losing 25-11, 25-23, but have not beaten in two-years. So I believe that EXTREME is very well-recognized and accurately ranked in the region for their accomplishments and attribute the coach's comments to the "exuberance of the moment".
It was also a great story for Invasion this weekend in not only winning Northern Lights but for the first time in team history, actually making it to the championship court at an NQ (hopefully PREP recognition and articles forthcoming?) and now forever losing the title "Best Open team to never make it to finals at an NQ!" This was probably the team's last shot at an NQ together as players are strongly considering making this their last JRVB season, graduating early, and joining their collegiate teams...and doing it by choice and excited about that choice. |

Let Extreme have their day in the sun... | ||

I would submit that the preceding post, in itself, is a good example of why some in the HOA area would get the impression that "it's all about"
the author's team.

...see how you might have that opinion and would bet that every team at any NQ has a "story" to be told whether first or last at the end of the day.
This article leads me to now believe that a follow-up article is actually coming to wrap-up Northern Lights. My expectation was to open this article, read the Extreme section, and again be genuinely happy about the recognition, and then read about the rest of the teams..Invasion Swat, Invasion Black, Topeka Elite on and on that also had great tournaments and "stories" to tell. Probably premature as I think (hope) there's more to come, and at the risk of incurring JT's wrath, the PREP coverage was a little off this weekend, may be JT's just tired of all this work and being away from home so much; his eyes really do light up when talking about his kids. Pictures were OK on Day 1 but I like to read his input and thoughts not just look at pictures although it does ease his workload; could've done without the KC Power article (true or untrue)as it's a "lose-lose" situation regardless of where the truth lies; and, again, liked the Extreme article (heck I co-founded the club) but at the end I just went "huh?" where's the rest of the teams? To draw an analogy close to your heart "JHAWK" would be full page stories at the end of the NCAA Basketball season on Memphis's run at the NCAA Basketball Tourney, even throwing in Calapari's interviews of his team getting no respect. And somewhere embedded deep in the article in a one-line sentence is a "Oh by the way Kansas won the tournament". ...but again, this must not be all that is coming.

Wrap ups never happen the night after a tournament. I simply can't pump it out that fast.
As for the college decisions for Invasion girls, please stop before making the assumption that college makes more sense then a final year of high school and season of club. I get the sense from kids and college coaches alike that the trend we've seen recently is reversing. Parents guiding their children should tell them not to be in too much of a hurry to grow up. Alix Klineman and Megan Hodge before her and countless others did just fine in the transition to college and they got to enjoy a final season of club and the other perks of the senior year. |

Newpost, not sure but didn't Extreme beat Invasion the first game of the year? So it WAS two years until they got beat by Extreme. Like jhawk said, let
them and their coach enjoy their well deserved open bid. Looks like they had a tough road to earn it going through two teams that had already qualified.
Invasion is already well recognized by people around the nation and you. Extreme obviously got some recognition this time because of the excitement in the way
they won. Coming back from 10 down is not an easy task.
