Also, from my experience, many of the high school tournaments are 'locked' with teams who have participated in the previous years. They get first dibs. Thus, unless a team drops out or the sponsoring school decides to expand the tournament, there is is no way for a new school who wishes to become part of a given tournament to actually do so. At least, that is what I've been told by a coach when I asked why we weren't participating in a specific tournament.

From my experience, it's not really up to the coaches as to what tournaments to enter. Most schools' athletic directors are in charge of booking tournaments. When or if we want to switch tourneys in order to attend one more challenging, etc, we contact the AD and let him know of our concern. He then searches for tournament openings and books us for one that fits our criteria. So, really you can ask your coach if it's possible to participate in the preview, but the coach will have...

It is usually a week or two before the big tournament. McAuley's website might have more info on it but it might still be too early.

I could be wrong but I believe the in-state schools have to compete in the Nike Preview tournament. The top three finishers move on the the Nike Classic the next year. The top three Preview finishers replace the bottom three in-state finshers in the Classic in the following year. That is my understanding.

Our high school does not participate in the McAuley tournament although, the high school has consistently been top 15 in the state. What is the process for getting into the big event?

I have got to believe that Downers Grove South, with 9 returning players, 8 of which will be Seniors, is going to be highly ranked and tough to beat.

I didn't attend Junior Nationals, but I saw some of the scores. I was really hoping that one of our Illinois teams could knock off Northern Lights. We were so close.Oh, well.

So, who is looking good in this year's high season. Benet is an obvious one. Any other likely powers?

Illini Elite 15's finished 2nd yesterday,
but overall, highest ranking team in 16 PL was Sky High 15 Black in 4th place, and then Milwaukee Sting in 5th.

Great Lakes didn't post the seeding dates, but if they did they would shown the progress of Wisc. Jrs. 16-1. Since they only show the actual tourney dates, it didn't show the same progress. At least you got to exact your revenge on the Lions 14-1 team.

Sorry, but have to give props to our girls: Wi Jrs 16-1. After losing the very first match, they battled back to win the next 17 straight matches making it to "A"- although briefly. Got beat all 3 that day but came back yesterday & took 1st in pool B.

Great Lakes posted the final results for 16 Power. Congrats to SPVP 16 Elite for winning it all. It would be interesting if Fusion, 1st Alliance, Milwaukee Sting, Sky High, Celtic Force etc. had their top 16 team playing in 16 Power. But I totally understand why they play 18 Power and don't do both leagues.

Improved every week:
Illini Elite 15 Cardinal: finshed 25th, 17th, 11th and 2nd in that order
Capital 15 Elite: finished 21st, 18th, 10th...

Can anyone offer insight into which open qualified teams will be attending any of the local year end tourneys (Asics, PreNationals, etc.)?

And how about local teams going to AAUs?

I am hopeful that there are some match ups between the strongest in our region (SPVB, Fusion, 1st Alliance, etc.) and open qualified teams. I can't help feeling just a little remorse that our region won't be represented in the Open division in any age group.

There was some great volleyball played this weekend at the JVDA tourney at Sky High. Congrats to First Alliance 16 Silver as they defeated Illini Elite 16 Cardinal in the finals. First Alliance beat Sky High 16 Black in one semi and Illini Elite beat Wisconsin Juniors in the other semi, so Sky High and Wisconsin Juniors finished in 3rd. Sports Performance Sophs and Chicago Juniors 16 Jade finished in 5th.
