What a loss! It was always great running into John at tournaments and hearing how much fun he was having helping his players get better. He alway took delight in seeing how someone was improving from where they started the season. I wonder if the girls who played for him know how great a setter and hitter John was (back in the day). My best experience playing with John was with a team at the 1985 Men's Over-35 USVBA Championships in New York. John absolutely refused to lose!...

I talked with John this past fall and he shared his health problems then. I will always remember John as one of the most friendly, unselfish, and happy men I have ever met. He was all about helping kids and making volleyball a better sport for everyone. It is frightening how quickly this terrible disease can take a life. My prayers go out to his family. The Volleyball community has lost one of our best. We all need to work a little harder to fill this void. And one more thing, let's all...

John will be missed. He was all about what was the best for the girls no matter what team they played for. He will be thought of this weekend as we play our regionals and we hope he is looking down from heaven and enjoying the games. Our prayers are with his family.

John was a great man! I will miss seeing him at tournaments and just shooting the breeze. While our teams always competed against each other, he was always so supportive of and excited by each team across the region. This is a tough loss, as he contributed so much as a person and coach. We can all be proud to have known him.

I used to coach against John all the time.

For some idiotic reason we would often play against each other at qualifiers so we would joke that we had to travel miles away from home just to see each other. I am very much saddened by this news, he was a one of the good guys and I truly enjoyed matching wits with him and hanging out together at tournaments.

The St. Louis-Metro East volleyball community suffered a huge loss this morning as John Sheehan passed away after a battle with cancer. He is a long time recruiting coordinator and coach for Southwest Illinois Volleyball Club. He coached various age levels over the years. Last season (2007) was his last with SWI 161. His smile and enthusiasm was missed in the gym this season. Please keep John and his family in your prayers.
