My daughter has played LSHP the last two years. I can tell you all first hand that VBEyes comments are accurate regarding complexity: ( coaches, practice facility, gear, hotels, token gift exchange, etc.).

I can also tell you that the costs of all that are not all passed on to the players... I am certain that two years ago, the region provided no funding for any of this. I think last year, the region may have subsidised the jerseys. However, I would be very surprised if this...

The logistics requeyered to put together a regional HP team are much more comprehensive than just putting together a or multiple treyeouts. The girls have to be set up to practice together and then thay go off and play. Sounds simple, but it is not. Coaches have to be found & funded, rooms secured, airplane reservations acqueyered and all else.

Then when selections are made, they have to put up with the grumpusing. Eye can remember meye own grumpusing when the 1st one was...

It's a shame the Austin Jrs waited so long to make the announcement they would not be coordinating regional tryouts. I think some families may have taken it for granted this would happen again. I wonder if the dollar resources to build the new facility in North Austin was a factor.

I am not "gritching" about the HP thing as I really wonder why we would need "regional" teams in the first place if there is already a program in place for these kids to try out for the national HP teams.

Good post VB Eye, but if there is truly a geniune interest in LS Region HP why not consider asking other regions how they are able to organize, support and fund the program. I'm sure other regions have the same challenges we do, yet they are able to field teams. I think most have an issue due to the lack of information. This tend bring the masses out on message boards.

Everyone is getting a bargain. The duties are too numerous to reference here. The angst of the 20 girls (or so) that do not get to participate in this year's HP program is minimal in comparison to the vast amount of good that is provided to the thousands in the region that will never qualifeye for it.

I agree with a lot of what the JDVA is trying to accomplish, however I have been critical of the "boycott" of qualifiers in regards to OPEN Bids. Various other arguments made by the JDVA make sense because of things like the points made in the last few posts.

I don't want to derail this thread, but there are people and JVDA asking USAV some accountability type of questions. I have to ponder the concept of USAV being a role model...

1. How are the powers that be in the LSR put into their positions? Are they elected? By whom?
2. What are the duties of these caretakers of our region?
3. Are they paid or are these volunteer positions?
4. What kind of budget does the region operate with and where does the money come from and what are we currently spending it on?

I had a really nice post drafted about alternate means of fielding a team. But then I checked the USAV web site, and the entry deadline for the HP tournament (the whole point of this) is May 1 -- seven days from now. So there is no alternative. What a pity. Lone Star High Performance 2009: Tornados? Alamo? -- you can do it! Go for it! You have our support.

Does ANYONE know ANYTHING about tryouts for this program this year? I e-mailed the person in charge a couple of weeks ago and got an e-mail back saying they would post tryouts "this weekend, as soon as Lonestar is settled." Well, Lonestar is now not only settled, it is over, yet there is still no information up. Surely one of the biggest regions in the country is not going to blow off High Performance this year?
