I'm not trying to protect him from any criticism of his behavior at tournaments which is what this thread was originally about. The only thing I was responding to was CNBC's post which didn't have anything to do with his behavior at tournaments.

Well, what I was defending was the unsubstantiated claim by CNBC that his kids play for a particular club because they are looking to get a scholarship to 'SC, not any other accusations made in this thread about his behavior at tournaments.

Pointing out a overzeleous parent's behavior is one thing, insinuating there is some insider deal between a college and a club and then using the names of the kids, as CNBC did, is another.

CNBC -- What a ridiculous post. Of course there is a relationship between USC coaches and SCVC. Just like there is a relationship between LBSU coaches and Cal. jrs. and similar relationships between colleges and many, many clubs.

According to the NFHSA rulebook, you never based a judgment call on sound, however I agree that hearing it confirms the seeing it but sometimes the gym is so loud that I have to wear them when reffing HS matches but it does look bad when you have to take them out to confer with a captain for whatever reason. But with that many courts next to one another at a qualifier I would assume is might be a "necessary evil"

Never mind... I looked into it further and discovered that there is practically a cottage industry in earplugs for referees. Sounds like (no pun intended) they reduce the decibel level while still allowing some level of hearing.

But wouldn't earplugs also block out things that referees need to hear to be good referees? Hearing a touch helps confirm that you saw one. Listening for a serve while you're looking at the players on the other side for...

I first met this "nut job" when he was an unruly teenager. His personality has never changed...in fact, if you can believe it ...he has actually mellowed over the last 30+ years.
Too bad he poisons the great game of volleyball with his foul language, bad temper and unsportsman like conduct.
Such a bad example for young and old alike.

He shot himself in the foot with his big ego and bad attitude and his beach volleyball days were short lived.

I started wearing wearing earplugs as a referee recently to block out the whistle and constant noise. Much to my delight...they also block out the obnoxious fan comments...

Lets just say I have come across some a hole like him at a match. I remb once a dad got mad because I was cheering for a team and his kid played on other team. He told me to shut the f up. I told him maybe he needs to move because I was sitting there alot longer then he had been. He then told me he was going to kick my a_ _ . So I got up to move and a ref heard what he said guess what...The police where called and he was giving a ticket...He even used his foul mouth around the cops then gave...

On Saturday at the Lone Star tournament, I got there early in the afternoon before my daughter started playing and went to watch the older girls in the open. Those kids are so good!

But I noticed one dad (I assume) yelling at the refs on two courts -- SCVC was playing on both -- making such a scene that he had to be warned by both refs he was about to be kicked out. He acted like he knew more about volleyball than anyone else.

Is this the kind of dad I will become when...
