Statistically speaking, what are the numbers for lefties in volleyball? I'm aware of the real and/or hypothetical advantages a left handed setter or weak side hitter has. Do these advantages draw an above average number of lefties into the sport (say, as pitching does in baseball)? If the aforementioned is true, it doesn't seem to me like there are as many lefties playing in the upper levels as I would expect. What fraction of high-level right side hitters are lefties? How much do you consider body type in tryouts? I'm asking because my daughter is on the larger side of the typical volleyball player. She is 13, a setter/RS, about 5'7". She was named MVP of her team this year (they got an American bid to Nationals). Her current coach tells me that she is one of the smartest players he's seen, but at tryouts for this year, one of the coaches for the older girls told him not to even consider my daughter, that she wouldn't be fast...

fundraising ideas

Our 13s team is going to Nationals and we need some fundraising ideas that can help offset some of the costs. I'm looking for ideas that the girls will do together (like a car wash) and has little to no overhead. The coach wants to use these fundraisers as bonding experiences too. Any ideas? Thanks.

Clubs on Probation Getting JO Bid's

Is there any precedent for a club that was placed on probation- supposedly for coaches not having a completed background check- affiliating with another club and actually getting and accepting JO bids while on probation? Don't the people who coordinate the JO"s check to make sure that clubs on probation don't skirt the rules? Doesn't that take away a spot from a club that played by the rules?

Morgan Boub, the ultra-athletic 5-6 junior OH from Blue Valley West HS (KS) and KC Extreme 17s, has made a commitment to Coach Ray Bechard and the University of Kansas for 2009.

Boub can do it all, but is expected to roost in the back row.

Loyola Marymount has added two backrow specialists to its 2008 recruiting class, as seniors Diana Hiromoto and Christa Scholtz are headed to the hilltop campus in LA.

Hiromoto, who stands 5-6, attends Punahou HS in Hawaii and plays for Oahu VBC. She has played on the outside and at libero in HS and will play back row for the Lions, which is also where she plays club.
